BabyFirst DVD Review
I was first introduced to BabyFirst in the hospital when I gave birth to my toddler. It was showing on one of the channels on the recovery unit (after delivery). I hadn’t paid much attention to the programs until recently. I was sent two copies to review from the four newest additions to Mill Creek Entertainment. I really wanted to get the DVDs to see how they could help us with our toddler’s speech delay. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the BabyFirst line but I figured it would be a great way to start. Since we are still in the testing stages of what’s causing his delay I wasn’t to take things slowly. I don’t want to overwhelm him and I figured these would be a great way to start. The two DVDs we’ve been reviewing are Hoppy Learning with Harry the Bunny and The Best of BabyFirst Learning Launchpad Vol 2. Our toddler has a very short attention span, he doesn’t pay attention to anything for a prolong period of time. He prefers to jump around the house and climb on everything. Since he doesn’t sit or stand still long I introduced the DVDs to him in small sections.
Instead of running the entire DVD at once I would show him one chapter a day. I’ve also repeated to help him fully understand what he’s looking at. Even in the small doses it’s taking time but I can see him taking notice of what’s going on. We’ve been working on getting him familiar with colors and so far he’s enjoying the coloring chapters. He likes seeing the crayons color and the pictures at the end. He loves watching the Peek-A-Boo chapter on The Best of BabyFirst. He’s enjoyed it the most and it’s help us show him a way to play with his baby brother without being rough. I really enjoy getting to be carefree again with him and playing Peek-A-Boo. On the Hoppy Learning DVD he’s been focusing on sounds. He has odd reactions to sounds and we wanted to ease his mind about some sounds so they didn’t frighten him or cause him to get major panic. We’ve enjoyed these titles and we plan to add to the collection to continue to share with him and our infant.
