Take a Break from Figuring Our Dinner with Home Chef
I love being a stay at home wife and mother. It has afforded me the opportunity to stay home with my kids and experience all the memories I didn’t want to miss. As much and I love my family, being a homemaker can be challenging. One of the biggest struggles for me is dinner. I try to be creative and create different ideas. I make new dishes, and improve on old favorites. There are those times however where I need a break.
Home Chef offered to send me two free meals to try with my family, and I jumped at the opportunity. I’ve tried other meal delivery services in the past so I know how they work. I also kept an open mind to the possibilities of Home Chef and not compare it to what I’ve tried in the past. Getting started was so easy. I visited the Home Chef sign up page. You start by entering your email address and zip code.
The next step is setting your preferences. One thing I noticed that was different about Home Chef is the wide variety of options, especially with choosing the number of people you are cooking for. I loved that I could also include things I wanted to avoid in my meals as well. Once you’ve set your preferences you add your address and payment information. Then you just sit back and wait for your shipment to arrive.
My shipment arrived with everything I needed to create two delicious meals. I made a change to one of the options Home Chef picked for me. Once I had signed up I even got a phone call from the company to make sure I was satisfied. My items were so fresh, it was like I had just picked them up from the supermarket. Another feature I loved about Home Chef was their recipe pages. My shipment included a white three-ring binder so I could save my recipes to use later. My two meal choices were: Pan-Seared Steak with Garlic Tomato Sauce & crispy Parmesan Potato Cakes and the Coffee Rubbed Bone-In Pork Chop with Honey Roasted Root Vegetables.
Following the recipes in the box were super easy, and I will say that my meals looked very close to the photo on the cards. I had to give myself a pat on the back because with other services I’ve tried in the past that wasn’t the case.
I stared by cutting up the root vegetables and sautéing them on the stove top first. This recipe had turnips and we didn’t think we could like them much but kept it anyway.
While my root vegetables were in the oven I seasoned the pork chops and cooked them off on the stove top. I didn’t go overboard with my seasoning during this step I kept it simple and relied on the ingredients provided by Home Chef.
Once the pork chops were done cooking I started working on the sauce for the chops and vegetables. I usually don’t make sauces with my meals but this one was so easy to make.
Once the veggies were out of the oven it was time to plate and serve. The turnips were so good. They were soft with a sweet nutty flavor. We were all happy we didn’t leave them out of the dish because it was really good.
This meal was absolutely delicious. We were all licking our fingers after we finished eating. The pork chops were juicy and full of bold flavors. My husband was surprised you couldn’t taste any of the coffee I used in the rub or the sauce.
The steak dinner was just as easy to prepare. I’ve never made strip steak before but I was surprised and how well I did with this cut of meat.
For this meal of course the first thing I did was get the potatoes on the stove to boil. After boiling I mixed them similar to mashed potatoes. Once I mixed them I formed them into small balls and then pan-fried them. These I would easily make over and over because the kids loved them.
Once the potato cakes were done cooked the steaks and the made the tomato garlic sauce. The steaks I ended up using my seasoning since the recipe gave you the option to choose whatever you wanted.
I made both meals on the same night in under an hour. Together they were able to feed my family of six and we were all full. After dinner my husband’s first statement was “When are we getting another delivery from this place?” I felt bad disappointing him and letting him know that we weren’t, but he quickly responded saying we need to get this delivered at least once a month.
