Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Carson on Adventures in Babysitting
A few months ago during the Captain America Civil War Event our group had the opportunity to screen the newest Disney Channel Original Movie Adventures in Babysitting. The movie which stars Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Carson is the 100th DCOM, which premieres on June 24th at 8 PM/ET on Disney Channel.
“Adventures in Babysitting,” inspired by the hugely popular 1980s film of the same name, is an upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie starring Sabrina Carpenter (of Disney Channel’s hit comedy series “Girl Meets World”) and Sofia Carson (of the hit Disney Channel Original Movie “Descendants”). In “Adventures in Babysitting,” a dull evening for two competing babysitters, Jenny (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lola (Sofia Carson), turns into an adventure in the big city as they hunt for one of the kids who somehow snuck away.
While this new version is inspired by the original 1980s film, it’s not a remake. It follows the same story line but it has a more modern and up to date, making it easy for teens and tweens to relate to the whole story. Fans of the original can still however watch this one and get a sense of nostalgia while making new memories with their children. Sabrina and Sofia sat down and chatted with us about their roles in the film, being role models for young girls, and their developing careers. Here’s some of the amazing interview we had with the ladies.
Sabrina and Sofia talked about how much they enjoyed working with the five kids from the movie. Sofia added that she felt like they were all like family, they would have sleepovers on the weekends, and they did lots and lots of singing.
When asked about the funniest thing about each other. Sabrina shared that Sofia wasn’t funny at all, but they did an amazing job with the script. Sofia laughed responding that she was going to say the same thing, that she wasn’t funny but felt like Sabrina is the funniest person you’ve ever met.
When asked about stunts in the movie Sabrina shared a fun story with us about how she slightly injured herself doing a stunt for the movie. She laughed about it when sharing the details because she felt like it was such a simple way to get an injury.
It’s the beginning of the movie when Lola was first introduced, I’m carrying the painting in my arms. I had to run down the hill pretty quickly, jump over a lawn mover which was about this big. And the second I hit the pavement, I just wiped out. All you hear was a thump. And you just see me disappear behind the car. – Sofia Carson
Sofia didn’t let the injury stop her from finishing up the scene and the rest of the movie. You may notice her limping in the movie.
Sabrina started filming the movie at fifteen, when we sat down with her she just turned seventeen, so we asked about her driving skills, since she does have a few scenes where she’s driving in the movie.
Sabrina: I got to pretend drive.
Sofia: She did it! She did it!
Sabrina: Sofia would help me, she would say Sabrina, go right. Go left! I would, like, take my hands off, or forget to turn on my turn signal, cause I don’t drive. There are a lot of bloppers of me in the car.
You can catch some of those bloppers on the Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD versions of the film.
We were wondering if the girls felt like they would relate to the characters they played in the movie.
Sofia: I would say I’m kind of an in between. Lola is this really cool free spirited young girl who isn’t afraid to just live life, despite the consequences of sometimes making irresponsible decisions. But she’s really passionate about her art. And a very strong girl. And I’m also very passionate about… I think we both are, about what we do about our music and acting.
And we’re both also… I’m just gonna answer this for both of us. We’re both also independent girls. You know. Both of us have really strong, incredible moms. And they taught us to be strong girls, or represent girl power. And Lola and Jenny are both like that. ‘Cause Jenny would know she’s a little bit more inside the box. She’s still a strong, powerful young girl and we both save the day together.
Sabrina: What she said- It’s true, though! I take from Lola because she’s got that edgy sense of humor, and she’s very passionate about her art. Whereas Jenny can’t be creative to save her life, and I think that’s kind of what I spend my life doing. But I will say that I am sort of a perfectionist like Jenny, I think that’s good in our industry. Just to make sure that we’re always putting our best foot forward…
We asked about the girls sharing their favorite scenes from the movie. They both had different parts they liked the most.
Sofia: Oh, um… My favorite part of the movie… One of my favorite scenes, besides where we first meet, ’cause I think that totally shows the, the dynamic of these two new babysitters, and gets you ready for the adventure that you’re about to go on. Also the rap battle.
Sabrina: I love the simple bathroom makeover scene for Jenny. Just because it’s like a time where she’s not getting a full makeover where they’re glamming her up and making her look like someone she’s not. But just kind of letting her hair down in a way where she can be a little bit more adventurous like Lola. It just kind of shows you what she’s taken from this whole adventure that they’ve had together, and how she’s a little bit more confident than she was before.
Quite a few of us moms had daughters who are fans of both girls, including my own daughter. They are both great role models for young girls to look up to, but I wanted to know about how they felt about using social media to connect with their fans in a way that was never possible in the past.
Sofia: It’s really… one of my favorite parts of our job. Apart from being able to do what we love every day. We get to feel and share so much love with your daughters, and your sons, and it really means the world to us to know that they take their time out of their day to make photos for us, make videos for us. When we meet them, they get emotional, and I almost always get very emotional as well, because it’s still surreal to me that someone can look up to you and care about you so much, and you could feel the same way about them. I know that social media’s really the best way to stay connected to them.
Sabrina: I really feel like you can talk to them directly and they can talk to us directly. It was my birthday just on Sunday, and the amount of love that I received from all of my fans was just so beautiful. Really made me feel so loved, and I just hope to give it all back to them. ‘Cause we’re here because of them.
Sofia: with social media nowadays it’s really special. The fact that you could make someone’s day, and you don’t even know them. Or you could get to know someone that quickly is wonderful. And I think it’s nice to have that instinct connection.
Don’t forget Adventures in Babysitting premieres Friday, June 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel. For now you can check out the first ten minutes, or if you have Video on Demand you can see the movie ahead of everyone else.
