Hello From Camp Kikiwawa: BUNK’D Set Visit
Last month I attend came for the firs time ever. Well I had the opportunity to visit the set of BUNK’D the new Disney Channel show which premieres this Friday, July 31st immediately after Descendants. If you’ve seen previews of the show you probably are familiar with some of the BUNK’D cast, Peyton List, Karan Brar and Skai Jackson who plays Emma, Ravi and Zuri on Jessie are leaving their penthouse and heading to camp. The show is set up as a spin-off from Jessie, and if you wondering what happened to Luke – played by Cameron Boyce you can catch him in his new Disney XD show Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything which airs on Wednesday at 9:30 PM.
We had an opportunity to view a snippet of the new show while in L.A. before we visited the set. When we arrived the cast were busy filming so we sat in a viewing room that usually reserved for parents/guardians of the kids on the show. After watching them tape the scene we headed down to the commons area of the camp/set to chat with the cast.
The cast was super friendly when they talked to us about the show. I wanted to know of course about the members who were moving over from Jessie and joining this new show. They all were super excited about the new adventure although they all said they would miss their other cast mates who were not joining them on this show. For Karan, Skai and Peyton though it must be comforting having some familiar faces on set, but they all agreed that this new show already feels like family.
About BUNK’D
Emma, Ravi, and Zuri Ross have left their New York penthouse for a summer at Maine’s rustic Camp Kikiwaka, where their parents met as teenagers. Now CITs (Counselors In Training), they must learn the ropes from the overly cheerful head counselor Lou and the camp heartthrob, Xander. Zuri makes new friends with two younger campers, the uptight Tiffany and compulsive fibber Jorge. The camp’s owner is Gladys and she’s even scarier than the legendary creature that’s rumored to stalk the grounds, and with help of her sneaky niece Hazel, she’s out to get the Ross kids because of her decades-old rivalry with their mom. Along with their new friends, Emma, Ravi and Zuri adapt to their new “home away from home” and settle into their exciting new lives at Camp Kikiwaka.
Karan, Skai and Peyton are not the only familiar faces on the show though, you may be familiar with Miranda May who play Lou on this show, but she also has a recurring role on Disney’s Liv & Maddie.
When we were chatting with Miranda and Peyton we asked them about their plans for other career options. Miranda was excited when she shared with us she wanted to start a fashion line for curvy girls and women. She shared about her own frustration with shopping for clothes that just didn’t fit the way she wanted. You could tell from the passion when she talked it was something she would enjoy doing as much as she enjoys acting. She brings a lot of character and personality to this show. Lou is funny, smart and a great influence on Emma.
I had to also ask Miranda about being on this show as opposed to Liv and Maddie, besides her having a bigger role on BUNK’D she said it’s a little different because on that show she was apart of the younger kids on set and on this show she’s in the older group of kids.
There’s no denying that Emma’s personality changes on this show and according to Peyton she believes that Emma really grows up as the show progresses. She shared that her character’s whole style starts to change on this show and she’s more mature. It will be interesting to see how all the Ross kids change now that they are at camp and not living in their penthouse anymore.
Kevin Quinn who plays Xander on the show talked to us with Karan. They both had great things to say about the show. Kevin talked about his secrets to making it in Hollywood. He said instead of moving to Hollywood he stayed in his hometown of Chicago working and improving his skills, then when he started landing roles he made the move. It makes perfect sense to me.
