Four Reasons Disneyland Summer of Heroes was Fantastic

July 26, 2017 By Nickida

Four Reasons Disneyland Summer of Heroes was Fantastic

The last time I visited Disneyland it was for the Disneyland 60 Diamond celebration. It was an amazing experience because we were there to celebrate the release of Tomorrowland. We had special access to a prop from the movie, the It’s A Small World Ride, and even had a surprise visit from Mickey and Minnie. During my recent D23 Expo trip we visited the park for their special Summer of Heroes event, so check out the new Guardian’s Mission Breakout Ride.

We arrived at the park and all through the entrance area were signs that read – Hero Up with different Marvel heroes on them. We started our adventure in Disney California Adventure since the Mission Breakout Ride and all the heroes were there.

Mission Breakout

During my Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 press trip, I learned that James Gunn and members of the cast help picked songs that are played on the ride. I was excited about seeing how the ride looked after looking at photos online.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is the newest attraction in Disney California Adventure Park. Guests can step into a “Guardians of the Galaxy” story for the first time at a Disney theme park, and they’re helping Rocket rescue this cosmic gang of misfits. With multiple ride profiles, guests never know which adventure they’ll get.

There are some pretty cool items in the line queue for this ride. Some of them look very familiar to items I saw when we chatted with props master Russell Bobbitt during my secret set visit.  If you ever get a chance I highly suggest checking out the items there even if you don’t get on the actual ride.

Heroes Galore

Summer of Heroes: Throughout Hollywood Land, guests will find food, experiences, and photo opportunities inspired by some of their favorite Super Heroes. Guests join Star- Lord and Gamora in the epic “Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance-Off.” Photo opportunities with Avengers such as Captain America and Spiderman, along with members of Guardians of the Galaxy–like Groot–will make social media followers super envious. Young recruits will assemble with Black Widow and Hawkeye to learn how to face off against the evil HYDRA organization in the “Avengers Training Initiative.”

Special Summer of Heroes Food

While you’re at the park be sure to check out the special food items to celebrate Summer of Heroes. We were all excited when we saw the Groot bread. We hopped in line immediately to grab a bite. You have to hurry though the special food items sell out pretty quickly. Seasonal food offerings including:

  • “I Am Bread” – Hollywood Land, Fairfax Market Place – While it’s too cute to eat, you just can’t help yourself! One bite will have you saying “I am Groot.”
  • Baby Groot Sipper – Hollywood Land, Award Wieners – The sipper makes any drink – Groot-tastic!
  • Neighborhood Favorite Macaroons – Hollywood Land, Schmoozies! – These spider-bite sized cookies are everyone in the neighborhood’s favorite snacks
  • Gamma-Sized Doughnut – Hollywood Land, Schmoozies! – It’s definitely large enough to satisfy your donut cravings.

Fantasmic Returns

“Fantasmic!’: Disney’s longest-running and most popular nighttime spectacular, returns to the Rivers of America at Disneyland park July 17, 2017. Mickey’s exploration now features enhanced state-of-the-art projection technology and has new scenes with characters from “Aladdin,” “Tangled,” “The Lion King” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” One dazzling sequence finds Aladdin and Jasmine discovering “A Whole New World” as they float on their flying carpet over a bed of fog on the Rivers of America.
