Celebrating Family During the Holidays
When I was growing up in Trinidad we didn’t have Thanksgiving to celebrate. As a matter of fact we didn’t even celebrate Halloween. It was called All Saints and All Souls day. For us celebrating Christmas was a grand event. People prepared for at least two months to get their houses ready for Christmas morning and guests that would come paranging on Boxing Day. When my family moved to the United States all our holiday traditions changed. We started to celebrate Halloween, we cook massive dinners for Thanksgiving and we put less emphasis on Christmas. This year I wanted to return to traditions I grew up with when I was a child. I decided to not wait until after Thanksgiving to put up our Christmas Tree.
This year we put the tree up early. I didn’t want to wait till after Thanksgiving. I wanted to enjoy the holiday season sooner.
We added two new ornaments to the tree. Last year when I realized out tree was filled with glitter covered round bulbs but no ornaments that told stories about our family. I decided to change that. We’ve been adding ornaments that are special to each one of use. Ornaments that are going to be passed down to our children when they have families.
This year I wanted to start increasing the holiday decor around our house. Aside from stringing lights around the ceiling and hanging our stockings we don’t have lots of holiday decorations. My friends at Personal Creations reached out to me about sharing family traditions during the holidays. They wanted to send us something special to incorporate into our holiday traditions. When searching their site I came across this canvas art piece that would be perfect for our family.
I couldn’t wait to hang it on the wall to add more holiday cheer to our house. I also think this will be the perfect prop for holiday photographs with the kids. I can see us creating years of memories with this simple canvas. It’s festive and adds just the right amount of cheer to our holiday routine. Here’s a look at some of our memorable photos for this year. All parents know how difficult it can be to get kids to take the right photo when you need it. LOL.
