So I am browsing channels and I saw a show Catfish. I guess I think its about food and I tune it, only to find it’s not about food in any way at all. If you haven’t seen the show let me give some brief insight into this show. Its on the MTV Network. It’s like a documentary series about people who are in online relationships. This is my second time seeing the show actually the first time I didn’t even realize what I was watching. The episode I saw today was about a guy who was dating a former Miss Teen USA. There had been chatting on Facebook for a few months and he wanted to find out if she was real or fake. Crazy right! Well their is a two man team who makes calls and interview people to see just how real or fake the person in question is. They were so convinced that the girl was real they even called her and set up a meeting for the pair. When the girl’s car arrives at the boy’s house he is expecting to find his online friend the model but instead its one of his friends.
She was so good she even fooled the people making the show. She had people to verify they knew her and even had an agent state that he worked with her in the past. Later she reviled that she was addicted to creating fake Facebook profiles. She said she liked the feeling she got from chatting with people through the fake profile. It seems like it makes her feel better and helps her self esteem. Still she didn’t care how it affected the people she was lying to. The other episode I saw was very similar to this one. A girl was online dating a guy for two years and wanted the team to help them finally meet face to face. Long story short, there was no man just a jealous girl that was dating her ex-boyfriend. She was using the fake profile to keep the girl away from the ex. How in the world you date someone for two years online is beyond me but it seems she did and she was so hurt in the end.
Have you seen Catfish? What are your thoughts?
