Usually I don’t talk about periods, Aunt Flo, or that time of the month on my blog. It’s really not something I talk about that often with anyone, and that’s where I’ll start this conversation. I remember when I was a young girl who started my menstrual cycle for the first time.
I wasn’t prepared when I started my cycle for the first time. I was sitting in class and my clothes felt damp, I ask to go to the bathroom and discovered what happened. I ended up in the nurses office asking for feminine hygiene products to get my through the day and I had to switch to my gym clothes for the rest of the day. Once I got home that afternoon my mother talked to me about what was happening to my body. It was completely unexpected, neither of us know it was going to happen. That’s usually how it happens for girls.
We have no way to knowing when our bodies will start the menstruation cycle so it’s usually a surprise for us all. Sometimes it happens when you’re home so it’s easier to maintain, but there are times when it happens unexpectedly, at the worst possible times. I wish I could say that my first experience was the last time I was surprised but unfortunately it wasn’t. I have abnormal menstrual cycles so tracking mines has been difficult, it’s never the same month to month. As a mom of four, my life can become very hectic I’m always trying to be prepared for when nature takes it’s course.
To prepare for the unexpected I keep a kit on me at all times, so whenever the unexpected happens I’m prepared. This Backpack Period Kit is perfect for busy young women, really it’s perfect for girls and women of all ages. I recommend creating one for your young daughters so there’s prepared at all times, for college students, really for any women.
I headed to my local CVS to purchase U by Kotex items for my Backpack Period Kit. They carry all the newest products and they are so easy to find in store.
To get started creating your Backpack Period Kit you’ll need a few items. Here’s a list of the ones I used in creating my kit.
- Small cosmetic case or pouch
- U by Kotex® Cleanwear® Pads
- U by Kotex® Security® Tampons
- U by Kotex® Barely There Liners
- U by Kotex® Lightdays® Liners
- U by Kotex® Security® Ultra Thin Overnight Pads (optional)
- Over the Counter Pain Relief Pills (optional)
- Heat Wraps (optional)
Step One:
I choose a variety of products I’ve used in the past and love. Kotex® is one of my favorite brands, and I’ve used a lot of their products over the years. I feel in love with the features of the U by Kotex®. They designed all their products to make your period easier and more manageable.
Step Two:
Choose a clutch or cosmetic bag that you like. I love this one because it’s nice and colorful, when people see me carrying it around they have no idea what’s included inside. It’s discreet and it holds a nice amount of stuff. You can purchase these in bulk and create multiple kits for different places. This always works great when traveling as well.
Step Three:
Start by choosing the right Tampons for you. I went with the U by Kotex® Security® Tampons because they work great for me. For younger girls choose a regular as opposed to Super or Super Plus like I did. These work great if you have a very heavy flow, like me. If you’re looking for something compact and small add the U by Kotex® Click® Tampons to your kit instead. I’ve used them in the past and they worked great but I just like the security line of tampons better.
Step Four:
Add the perfect liners to your kit. U by Kotex® Barely There Liners come in colorful creative wrappers that are fun and very discreet. They fit smoothly into underwear and flexible. They move when you do, so there’s not bunching, rolling, and I know when I’m using it that I don’t have to worry about my clothing getting ruined. I use these daily, and even when I’m working out and sweating they stay in place all the time.
Step Five:
My sister actually introduced me to U by Kotex® Lightdays® Long Liners a while ago and I’ve kept using it all this time. This is my go to product for really light days, when I think I’m going to start my cycle I wear these to prevents accidents. They are perfect for when I’m near the end of my cycle and I don’t think I need an actual pad. The reason I added these and the U by Kotex® Barely There Liners is because I think you need them both since they both have different uses.
Step Six:
Pads are the last thing I add to the kit, unless I add items like the pain relief pills, or a heating wrap. I used the U by Kotex® Cleanwear® Pads in my kit. It features the same decorative cover as the U by Kotex® Barely There Liners, offering the same discretion. The unique 3D Capture Core* with Xpress DRI* cover works crazy fast to absorb and help stop leaks. It’s comfortable and the wings keep your underwear clean for hours. These were great when I was moving around and being active all day. I even used them overnight with great results. U by Kotex® Security® Ultra Thin Overnight Pads are also an option when you’re traveling overnight.
Once you have all your items place them in the pouch or cosmetic bag and place in your backpack so you’re always ready for the unexpected. I’m making one for my daughter to keep with her since she’s getting older. I don’t want her dealing with the unexpected like I did. How do you prepare for your monthly cycle? Check out the Kotex Social Hub to see how other women like me stay prepared.
Kotex is giving woman a voice with their Period Project program, so you can have a say when it comes to your period and your needs. Become a part of the project and share your thoughts with the brand. Take a break from your daily routine, and start a conversation with me. Have you even dealt with an unexpected cycle before? How did you handle it? What do you do now to make sure it doesn’t happen again?
