10 Reasons Why the ZTE Maven is a Great Phone for Students

10 Reasons Why the ZTE Maven is a Great Phone for Students

My oldest child is eight and I really thought that I still had a few years before I had to deal with getting them cell phones but as she prepares to enter third grade this fall, I am starting to reconsider this thought.  More and more kids are getting their first cell phones at an earlier age.  I am hoping we can wait till they are heading to middle school before exploring cell phones for the kids, however if you’re in the market for a phone for your student, here are 10 reasons why the ZTE Maven is a great phone for students.

Craftsmen

Very Affordably Priced

The ZTE Maven is available on the AT&T Network for the very affordable price of $59.99.  The device can be activated on both AT&T postpaid and GoPhone prepaid service.  At that price you can get phones for all the students in your family.  The price is very attractive for me because you get a durable, high quality phone for a low price.  You don’t have to worry about payment plans one the phone or high insurance deductibles if you phone needs to be replaced.

ZTE Maven

Perfect Size for Students

The Maven has a 4.5 inch touch screen.  It’s the perfect size for students.  They can easily text, make calls, and play their favorite apps on the phone.  It small enough to fit in their backpack pockets and easy for them to keep track the phone.

ZTE Maven

Available on the AT&T Network

Compact in size, with voice-directed navigation and a pre-installed navigation app, the ZTE Maven is the perfect phone for anyone, especially students on-the-go this summer and during the school year. With 4G LTE***, a powerful 1.2 GHz Qualcomm quad-core processor, you get fast speeds streaming, downloading, and surfing.

Latest Edition Android Operating System

The latest Android 5.1 Lollipop Operating System comes pre-installed on the phone, all you need to get started is an email address from GMAIL.  If you already have an account it syncs with the new phone or you can create an account to get the phone working.  You will need an active account to use to Android app market for downloading apps.  Older students can use the phone to receive and reply to emails from their GMAIL account right from the phone.

Works In Case of an emergency

You never know when tragedy may strike, whether it’s big or small, you can rest assured that you child could use the ZTE Maven to call emergency services without using their minutes.  Most cell phones allow calls to 911 even if the phone is out of minutes.  This gives me added a piece of mind in case my kids ever need to use it.

Increase Productivity in Students

The ZTE Maven comes loaded with apps to help improve productivity.  Some are perfect for students, especially older students.  The calender app can help students on track all year-long.  No more missing project due dates or important events.  The Maven streams video, allows internet browsing and plays music.  Everything your student needs to help them be the best student is right at their fingertips.  When you add in the hundreds of thousands of app in the Google Play Store, that makes it even better.

Long Battery Life and Expandable Storage

The Maven boasts 10 hours of talk time in battery life and up to 15 hours of stand by time.  Perfect for students who are on the go for long period of times.  Keep in mind though when you are running apps and streaming music or video the battery life will be shorter.  I usually have to charge ours about every other day.  Charging is faster when plugged into a wall outlet.  It takes longer on the computer.  This phone is an 8 GB phone, 3.1 GB usable internal storage once you open it from the box.  However you can expand the storage up to 32GB by purchasing a microSD card for the phone.

Rear and Front Facing Cameras

My photo above is a little blurry due to the flash from the phone however the Maven has a 5MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera.  So students can talk all the photos they want with this phone.  Older kids may prefer a phone with a better camera but honestly with filters and editing this phone can be ideal for a quick photo update.

Help Student Drivers Stay Focused

The AT&T DriveMode app is a lifesaver and if you have students that are driving this will definitely give you added piece of mind. This feature encourages drivers to stay focused on the road and not on their phone.  When enabled it automatically activates once you accelerate past 15 MPH.  It blocks incoming calls and texts, keeping drivers focused on the task of driving instead of talking on the phone or texting while driving.

Control over Costs

The ZTE Maven can be activated on the AT&T GoPhone Prepaid network, that gives parents complete control over their student’s phone bills and usage.  No more worrying about them using up your family data plans or incurring excessive charges.  Parents choose the refill cards for the phone or you can have it automatically refilled monthly.  You have total control over the phone.

Right now AT&T is offering a special GoPhone offer, see below for offer details:

GoPhone Offer: Offer ends September 24, 2015. While supplies last. Buy a $25 or higher GoPhone refill card and get $20 instantly off an eligible AT&T GoPhone 4G LTE Smartphone device. Available in stores, online (att.com/gophone) & direct fulfillment.

If you’re looking for other affordable cell phone options for your student the ZTE Sonata 2 is available with Cricket Wireless online at www.cricketwireless.com and in select Cricket Wireless retail stores nationwide for $29.99 with new line activation or with an eligible upgrade.  T-Mobile also offers the ZTE Obsidian on their network for $99.99 or $4.13 per month.  It’s available online http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phones/zte-obsidian.html or in T-Mobile retail stores.

Good Humor Washington DC Tour

Summer is winding down but that doesn’t mean you can’t get out and enjoy the last few weeks of summer.  Good Humor Ice Cream is in the nation’s capital and they are inviting residents to come out and enjoy some free treats during the Welcome to Joyhood Tour.

“I participated in a Blog Blast Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Good Humor. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

After making stops of the “Welcome to Joyhood” summer campaign in New York City and Philadelphia, the iconic brand is continuing its tour and traveling to Washington, D.C.  I grew up in Trinidad but I remember when we moved to the US and spending summer waiting for the ice cream truck to pass by with the Good Humor treats.  My favorite has always been the Chocolate Eclair and Strawberry Shortcake Popsicle.

Good Humor® will be engaging with fans on Twitter, and send the Good Humor® Joy Squad through their neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. from August 4 to August 22, surprising and delighting them with frozen treats and other unexpected delights. The Joy Squad will show up in neighborhoods and at events, local retailers and local businesses – as well as some unexpected places – to bring joy to everyday life.  I’ve included the schedule that @GoodHumor posted on Twitter.  Be sure to follow them so you know where the truck will be next.

Good Humor® has also teamed up with the Washington Nationals mascots to surprise and delight Washington D.C. residents on August 11, stopping by Metro Center from 12 – 12:30 p.m. and Dupont Circle from 12:45 – 1:15 p.m. to offer frozen treats, photo opps and other fun surprises.

Use Your Tablet Like a Laptop with a Bluetooth Keyboard

Use Your Tablet Like a Laptop with a Bluetooth Keyboard

Sometimes you need to expand the capabilities of your tablet.  Recently I had to send my laptop off for repair and using my main computer seemed like such a hassle.  I was so used to using the laptop that I felt trapped behind the desk of my computer.  I was using my son’s tablet for a few things and realized how useful it could be to have a bluetooth keyboard to use along with the tablet.  I was provided a 1byone Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard for review, any opinions expressed are my own.

When my keyboard arrived I was excited to give it a try.  I first tried to pair it with my desktop computer but I had problems turning on the bluetooth setting on the computer.  However if you do have a USB Toggle you can still use this keyboard without the use of bluetooth.  I already had one on my computer so I tried it on the kids tablets.  I was able to pair the keyboard with three different Android tablets.  I even was able to pair it with my iPhone 6 Plus.  If you’re using a tablet you could easily pair the keyboard to help you with surfing the web, writing emails, and so much more.

The 1byone Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard only requires two AAA batteries to work.  I’ve had mines for a few weeks and I haven’t had any problems with them running out yet.  The batteries are not included in the box.  Pairing is super easy, just finding the bluetooth setting on your device, turn it on and wait for the keyboard to show up.  Follow the prompts and just like that your keyboard is connected.  When you are ready to use the keyboard with another device unpair it and repeat the pairing steps with the new device.

I’ve been using my keyboard mainly with my Chromebook.  I’ve been having problems with my keyboard and the company wouldn’t fix it when I sent it to be repaired.  So instead of a costly repair this keyboard has been working great along with the laptop.  The 1byone Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard is very light and portable, so taking it with you when you travel is very easy.  Just pack it along with your tablet or laptop.  It’s about the size of an average wireless keyboard so it’s not super small but not really big either.  You can also use the touch pad on the keyboard like a mouse.

Overall I would say this is a good keyboard.  For the price it’s a great option especially since it can be used on a variety of operating systems.  You can use it with a tablet, phone or even your computer.  It has a sleek, slim design making it lightweight and very portable.  The keyboard has all your basic keys and features including the touchpad on the side.  My only con about this keyboard is because it has such a slim design it can be bent.  My four-year old was able to bend mines.  Despite the bent shape though it works perfectly fine.  While I don’t think most users will run into this problem, it could happen, especially if you have little ones using the keyboard.

Just the Facts Blog Tour and Review

Just the Facts Blog Tour and Review

My latest read was Just the Facts by Ellen Sherman. I’ve been taking a break from book reviews but I couldn’t pass this one up because it involved Maryland.  So of course that peaked my interest.  I took the book with me on my latest trip out to L.A. and I had finished reading it before I landed.  It’s quite a page turner and I think even more so for me because it was based in a state that I live in.  The book follows Nora Plowright—a fresh college graduate, and rookie reporter—as she uncovers a high-profile government scandal. But meeting one shady character after another only fuels Nora’s appetite for danger, and makes it more difficult to keep the facts straight.

just the facts

Just the Facts will be released in bookstores on September 8th, 2015 by She Writes Press.  I received an advanced reader copy for review purposes.  Any opinions expressed are my own.

About the Book:

Book CoverWhen English major Nora Plowright finds herself staring at college graduation as if at the edge of a cliff, she decides to become a newspaper reporter–and right away, she manages to get a job at a local paper (which you could still do in 1978). Although fearful by nature, Nora pursues a tip from a stranger and soon is investigating corruption at the Maryland State Highway Authority regarding the controversial placement of a new freeway. The developing scandal, with its shady “players,” tests both her budding reportorial skills and her appetite for danger. Also, her passion for storytelling makes it increasingly difficult for her to stick to the facts.

Humorous and poignant, Just the Facts is a coming-of-age novel about finding one’s way in the real world that will resonate with anyone who has struggled with figuring out what to do when she or he grows up.

My Thoughts:

This book starts off with a bang, literally.  Almost immediately Nora is thrown into the big pond and you can tell she’s a little green around the edges.  I loved reading along and seeing how she developed and grew over the course of the novel.  It was definitely a page turner for me and that’s not just because I was flying.  I really got into the scandal and intrigue in this book.  It made me wonder a lot about the politics in my home state.  I wondered how much of it was true and how much of it was made up for the book.  Sherman did an excellent job at adding in elements from the state of Maryland, including popular places, familiar cities and spent a lot of time focusing on the state capital Annapolis.

If you’ve ever wondered how things worked at a newspaper, the novel does give you a unique perspective into how it works.  Overall it was great.  My one thing I did notice it seemed that the main character Nora was never fully vested in her job working at this small newspaper and as the novel progressed I hoped that would change as she became more familiar with the work but it only became more clear that she just didn’t want to be there.  It really reminded me of my sister, or made me be able to relate to her in some ways.  It also made me not like her at times because it seems she felt she was too good to be working at the paper.

I felt invested in these characters.  I was cheering for Nora in her first big relationships and when it didn’t work out I felt sad for her.  When it seemed like she was moving on I felt happy for her and when she broke her big story I wanted to celebrate with her.  Just the Facts is a great read to enjoy on your own or with your book club.  Be sure to check it out when it releases in September.

SONIC Drive-In Family Dining Review

SONIC Drive-In Family Dining Review

My husband grew up with SONIC in his neighborhood.  There wasn’t a SONIC in Trinidad when I was living there, and I don’t believe there is one there now.  Even when my family first moved to Baltimore the restaurant chain hadn’t expanded to the Baltimore area.  During out brief time living in Winston-Salem my husband made sure I was introduced to the goodness of SONIC.  He just loves going there and I love the fact that they offer tater tots on the menu and the ice of course.  SONIC Drive-In recently introduced a Croissant Dog and so they sent us some gift cards to head out to our local SONIC Drive-In to try some of our favorites on the menu.

SONIC_Drive-In

SONIC Drive-In restaurants are popping up all over Baltimore and surrounding areas.  Every time we drive by one it makes my husband even happier.  Once our cards arrived it took it a few weeks to finally make it to the drive in.  The dar finally arrived and we were looking to find the closest one to our house.  There were two within five miles of us.  We opted for the newest location because we’d never been to that location before.

IMG_0773.JPG (2)

SONIC sent us $50 in gift cards to help cover our meal when we visited the restaurant.  That was more than enough to feed our family of six.  You can stretch your dollars at SONIC by visiting during their special hours.  Catch certain drinks for under a dollar when you visit before 10 AM, 1/2 price shakes after 8 PM, and half price slushes everyday between 2 -4 PM.  Like them on Facebook for more special offers.

When we arrived at the drive in we decided to head inside and sit instead of sitting in the hot car.  Plus our toddler wouldn’t want to sit in his car seat that long any way.  We found two tables that would work great to hold our whole family.  It was right next to the door way so we got to keep cool with the breeze.

sonic drive in (12)

As you can see from my husband’s face he’s excited.  Ordering was a breeze.  We all picked what we wanted from the menu and watch the televisions they had in the dining area while we waited for our food.  A car hop brought our food over and the kids were excited because she was wearing skates.  My son even tried to follow her back into the kitchen, I think he had a crush on her or he wanted to help make the hot dogs.

My husband went with the Footlong Quarter Pound Coney and Chili Cheese Tater Tots.  He always gets a footlong when we visit SONIC so it’s no surprise he choose it today.  SONIC offers a wide variety of hotdogs and coneys for guests to choose from including the All American Hotdog, the Chicago Dog and the Chili Cheese Coney.

The kids ended up choosing the Wacky Packs for their dinner, except for Trey, he wanted a bigger burger so he just got a regular burger meal and we paid a small fee to get him a toy.  The Wacky Pack gives kids the option of an entrée (corn dog, jr hamburger, jr deluxe cheeseburger, grilled cheese, hotdog, and chicken strips).  Sides include tater tots, natural cut fries and apple slices.  For drinks kids can choose milk, apple juice box, orange juice and a selection of Minute Maid juices.  Chicken strips won out among our kids and they ended up with slushes instead of the regular juices.

I ended up with a Bacon Cheeseburger with Natural Cut Fries for my dinner.  I wanted something different and it looked so great on the menu I had to give it a try.  It was huge and it was so good.  I loved the fries at SONIC, they had just the right amount of salt and they were fresh and crispy.  Everyone enjoyed their meals.

My husband and the kids even tried the candy slushes.  My son got this Blue Raspberry with Nerds.  They liked them especially getting the small candy pieces.  Our whole family enjoyed our visit to SONIC Drive-In so much we couldn’t wait to go back again. We’ve been back twice since and we plan to visit again before summer vacation is over.

What about you, what do you choose when you go to SONIC?

Make Special Moments with Smores Brownies #MomentoNescafe

Make Special Moments with S’mores Brownies

Summer just isn’t over unless you make some S’mores.  This year the kids truly discovered the awesomeness that is S’mores.  Before they had tried it a few times but now that they can make it on their own they’ve been super excited about trying it out on their own.  Life is often made of a series of special moments, some bigger than other but all special none the same.  I try to remind myself to embrace some of those small moments because they are so much easier to do.  Like each year our family heads out to state park for Memorial Day/Birthday Celebrations.  Each year we proclaim we are going back at least every other weekend and each year we probably make it back maybe once.  This year was the worst we have only been one time despite saying week after week we plan to return.

S’mores had been on the top of the kids to-do-list this entire summer and so far we had only tried them twice.  It’s not hard at all to make them, even if you are doing it on the stove.  In an effort to make special moments I decided to make a S’mores Brownie for dessert after dinner along with a cup of NESCAFÉ® Clásico ™ for myself.

2015-08-04 14.31.02

Making moments happen in your life doesn’t have to be big or extravagant.  It could be as simple as taking a nice walk after dinner once the temperatures start to cool, visiting a friend you haven’t seen in a while, serving your spouse breakfast in bed with a cup of NESCAFÉ® Clásico ™, taking the kids to the park for some unexpected fun.  Shake things up and try something you’ve always wanted to try like a new restaurant or a new type of food.

NESCAFÉ® Clásico ™ recently teamed up with Ricky Martin to inspire and encourage people to get out of their comfort zone and experience great moments that they wouldn’t otherwise get to experience.

I love Ricky Martin’s music, it always gets me in a mood to dance and have fun.  Check out this video about how Ricky is making moments happen with NESCAFÉ® Clásico ™.  Many thanks to NESCAFÉ® Clásico ™ for sponsoring today’s story and encouraging me to Make the Moments Happen!

How To Pick Out Your Best Lingerie

How To Pick Out Your Best Lingerie

If you’re the type of person who gets into your lingerie a bit, chances are you’ve developed some go-to items, stores, and designers. There are just so many options out there that once you find something sexy and comfortable, it can be tempting to stay put and rely on your favorites as the foundation of your lingerie drawer (or, if you’re really into it, entire wardrobe!).

Fashion art photo of young sensual lady in classical interior
Fashion art photo of young sensual lady in classical interior

But if you do have some go-to options, you may also be missing out on some of the endless potential that exists in the broader lingerie market! Yes, the selections can be overwhelming, and frankly the shopping process can be a pain. But when you find something great, it’s absolutely worth it. To help you do just that, I want to use this post to share a few handy tips for how to narrow down the selection and find a few new pieces of lingerie you’ll fall in love with.

First off, I’d suggest you use the Internet only in a limited capacity. Use it for inspiration—not for shopping. There are all kinds of incredible pieces of advice and ideas out there online from people who make it their job (or at least chief hobby) to research and reveal lingerie. This list of top lingerie blogs is a good place to start, as it can expose you to a lot of helpful opinions in addition to specific lingerie suggestions for different body types, style preferences, etc. But I wouldn’t recommend actually shopping online. Once you find your inspiration, use it as a starting point for an in-person perusal. Shopping online is just a little complicated when it comes to something for which fit and comfort matter so much.

Next, for more pre-shopping inspiration, I’d recommend you take some time to research a little more about your own body type. I know, that sounds a little bit counterintuitive; after all, it’s your body, you ought to be familiar with the type! But really, many of us are surprisingly unwise when it comes to how to use lingerie to best flatter our own bodies—at least, I know I used to be. If you’re a little uncertain in this regard, this guide to choosing lingerie can be immensely helpful in that it basically defines a few common body types and provides suggestions for which pieces might go best with them. Pear-shaped women might look best in baby dolls and chemises, for example, and someone bustier up top with slimmer hips might do best in a bustier or camisole. It’s by no means an absolute guideline, but figuring out where you fit on this spectrum might help you to narrow your focus effectively.

Finally, I think one of the most important steps is to forget about all the advice out there about “pleasing your man” or finding the right lingerie for him instead of you. Sure, you want to show off, and if you’re in a healthy relationship there’s nothing wrong with wanting to make yourself look ideal for that special someone. But in this lingerie selection tips article, the issue was clarified quite well: if you focus on someone else’s desires, you might not get something you feel comfortable and sexy in, and that might make the effect a bit less impressive. The key is to get lingerie that makes you feel great, and go from there.

Past those tips, my final suggestion is to allow some time to try on a lot of different bits of clothing. This is my main reason for preferring a live shopping experience to the online version. You really get to feel how things fit and see how they look, so why not go nuts and spend a few hours comparing options?

Good luck with your next trip to the mall, and here’s to your next great set of lingerie!

Eco Friendly Laundry Products by Eco Nuts

Eco Friendly Laundry Products by Eco Nuts

Before having children I never really paid much attention to the laundry products we were using.  My husband and I weren’t brand loyal at all.  We brought whatever was on sale and when I started to coupon it got worst.  When we first had our first child I started using laundry soap specifically for babies.  Usually those detergents cost more than what we used but I wanted to make sure it was safe for my kids skin.  We continued using special detergent with all our kids and now that our youngest isn’t quite a baby anymore we switched to using the regular detergent we used with our clothing.  I immediately noticed the detergent I used was causing skin irritations on our older kids.  It was time to find something new so when Eco Nuts reached out to me to try their eco-friendly laundry products I jumped at the chance.

eco_nuts

Eco Nuts sent me a few of their products to review and share my thoughts.  I’d never heard of Soap Nuts before so I was very excited to see how the product looked and how it would work.  I received a box of the Eco Soap Nuts, a bottle of Organic Liquid Laundry Detergent, sample packets of Baby Laundry Powder and a set of Four Plain Wool Dryer Balls.

econuts (2)

Wondering what Eco Nuts are?  Eco Nuts Soap Nuts are a berry shell that naturally contains soap.  They grow on the Sapindus mukorossi (Soap Berry) tree in the Himalayas.  The natural soap found in these berries is called saponin.  Saponin is a natural cleaner that works as a surfactant, breaking the surface tension of the water to penetrate the fibers of your clothing, lifting stains from the fabric, and leaving dirt suspended in the water that is rinsed away.

econuts (3)

econuts (5)

So you can imagine I was a little skeptical about how these Eco Soap Nuts would work but I followed the directions to a tea.  I put about five of the nuts into the little sack that comes in the box.  That is good for one load.  Oh and I should note that Eco Soap Nuts are HE Washer safe.  Eco Nuts Soap Nuts are gentle on both clothes and skin, making them ideal for those with sensitive skin, eczema, allergies and psoriasis. Because they are so mild, they are perfect for baby clothes and even cloth diapers.  This is a huge plus for us because our kids all have sensitive skin.  Regular laundry detergent bothers three of our for children’s skin so we needed something very mild but something that would get the job done.  Although this product is called Eco Soap Nuts, it’s actually a berry so it’s nut allergy safe.  However when trying a new product always do a sample test first.

econuts (4)

Eco Soap Nuts are also great for saving money.  These double as detergent and fabric softner so you automatically save money there.  However the 100 load box sells for $9.99 on the Eco Soap Nuts website.  Compared to top laundry detergent brands you can save at least 50% versus buying the bottles.  Be sure to also review the handy guide inside the box because it tells you all about the product and also gives you a great visual on when to discard of your Eco Soap Nuts and replace them.  The pouches can be reused a few times before they need to be replaced.

econuts (8)

If you are using a HE front loading machine then Eco Nuts recommends you use their Organic Liquid Laundry Soap instead of the Soap Nuts.  They both work well with HE machines but they do believe this one is more efficient.  I used both of these products to see just how well they worked versus the expensive “special” detergent we were using for our kids clothing.  First I had to resist my urge to over use like I do with other detergents because I already knew that Soap Nuts has low suds.  Suds are not an indication of cleaning power so I had to get that old way of thinking out of my head.

My kids are messy and they love playing outside.  Some of their clothing had stains from food or grass.  I used the soap nuts in one machine and the liquid detergent in another and they both did an amazing job at getting the clothes clean.  They were cleaner than I’ve seen in a long time and I was surprised at how fluffy and bright the fabrics were.  It’s like they were refreshed in the wash.  They also didn’t have any soapy gunk left over on the clothes from using too much soap.  With just two load I am sold.  None of my kids had reactions when they wore their clothes after being washed with Eco Soap Nuts, which was my main goal.

If you are purchasing Eco Nuts for a baby you can also try their Baby line of products that are 100% natural, gentle and safe to use on cloth diapers.

We also had the opportunity to try the Wool Dryer Balls and I have to say they were so much better than dryer sheets.  I do miss having the scent that dryer sheets would have but I prefer the balls because they are so much easier to manage.  When I open a box of dryer sheets for the first time and use them they are great but then it’s open to the air, they lose the scent and they start to discolor sometimes.  Eco Nuts recommends using all four dryer balls with a load of laundry but I used two per load and the clothes were perfect in the end.  Plus I am saving lots of money, no buying dryer sheets for a while and no more pesky old sheets to get rid of at the end of drying.  It’s a win for me.

Overall I have to say that I loved using these eco-friendly laundry products from Eco Nuts.  They were just as good and in some instances better than other laundry products we have used in the past.  All the other things are added bonuses in my opinion.

What about you, have you tried Eco Soap Nuts before?

Build Confidence, Stop Nighttime Bedwetting with GoodNites TruFit

When my son was diagnosed with Autism I knew that how we approached many things dealing with him would be different.  Now at four although he’s starting to show signs of being interested in potty training it’s not been an easy road.  Getting him to sit still to use the potty or toilet hasn’t been easy and usually ends up with melt downs.  Since he’s in school for a few hours a day we wanted to get him used to the idea of using the potty.  I know the normal tips and tricks I used with my two older kids wouldn’t get it done so we are trying it in reverse.  Most kids learn and master potty training during the day and have a hard time with it at night.  For us I am going to start with changing his nighttime routine and then work on changing up his daytime routine.

goodnites

Our son is non-verbal so our first steps with potty training means we’ll have to teach him signs and make sure he understands the feelings associated with using the bathroom.  This is one of the main reasons why I wanted to try training in reverse.  Building up his confidence during the night while working with him on the other things during the day.  I have heard about GoodNites TruFit Real Underwear before but I never though about trying it.  I know I didn’t want to keep my son in diapers or training pants at night so these seemed like they would do the trick.  TruFit are real cotton underwear that are washable and reusable that comes with disposable inserts.

GoodNites_at_CVS

I headed out to our local CVS to pick up a starter pack to get our son started over the weekend.  He just finished up with Extended School Year so now is the perfect time to add the change in his routine as we prep for back to school.  Each GoodNites TruFit Starter pack comes with two pairs of underwear and five inserts.  The underwear features prints for both boys and girls.

Getting started is super easy.  Wash the underwear before using for the first time.  When you’re ready to use place one of the disposable inserts into the leak-resistant insert pocket, once it’s secure the underwear is ready to wear.  It looks and feel like real underwear and that’s perfect for helping my son understand he’s getting bigger.  One of the first skills he’ll learn is putting on his own underwear and getting himself dressed.  Either my husband or I usually dress him.  Now instead of me putting on a diaper or training pants on him after his bath, I just make sure the underwear is ready and let him do it himself.  That will encourage him to do the task on his own, learning to be more independent.

The same concept applies when he wakes up in the morning.  Instead of me changing his diaper, our new routine involves him going from the bed to the bathroom to use the potty.  That way he’ll get into the routine of using the potty first thing in the morning and eventually we hope he’ll start to do it on his own.  Our next step is to introduce regular underwear during the day.  The goal is to get our son to first understand the feeling of having to use the potty from the mornings after sleeping with his GoodNites TruFit Underwear.  Once he understands how that feels it will be easier to get him to signal he needs to go to the potty during the day.

GoodNites TruFit Underwear are the perfect solution to an everyday problem for kids of all different ages.  Parents struggling with bedwetting issues not have a solution that not only works for them but it also makes their child feel confident and brave.  No more missing sleepovers or visiting family for fear of bedwetting.  Your child gets the extra protection of TruFit and you get stress free mornings.  As a mother of a special needs child this is a product that I really love because now my son don’t have to worry about not feeling normal or like his other siblings.  He gets to wear real underwear just like them, he gets to be independent and chance himself and he gets the protection he needs while he’s learning to master potty training.

Disney Descendants Movie Review #DescendantsEvent #DescendantsMovie

Disney Descendants Movie Review

It’s premiere night on Disney Channel.  The highly anticipated Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants premieres tonight on the Disney Channel at 8 PM.  I’ve been waiting for this movie for at least a year, I found out about it online and it immediately drew me in.  During my press trip last month I the opportunity to screen the movie and interview director/choreographer Kenny Ortega about the film.

maxresdefault

Since seeing the movie I’ve been so excited about everyone else getting to see this movie.  It’s awesome.  If you’re a fan of musicals then you would most definitely love this movie.  I really like the concept of all these characters we love and love to hate having kids and seeing a second generation.  This film is about second chances and following your own destiny despite what people think you should do.  The villain kids are expected to be bad and horrible but the moment they get to Auradon Prep their destinies start to change.  You see them all transform and become the people they want to be and not what their parent’s expect or what the citizen of Auradon think they will be.

DESCENDANTS – Day 17. (Disney Channel/Jack Rowand)

The movie also has a love story but there is one quick kiss between two characters.  It lasts about 3 seconds max.  The characters dance, hold hands and stare into each other’s eyes but it’s all G-rated so parents you can rest assured it’s a movie your kids can watch over and over again.  Trust me they will want to watch it multiple times.  The movie also tackles issues with self doubt and beauty issues but they do a marvelous job at assuring kids that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and goes beyond your outward appearances.

Meet the Descendants:

I’ve bene tight-lipped about my all time favorite scene in the movie and I won’t share just so I don’t give any spoilers but it’s another reason why I am super excited for you all to see the movie.  We’ll be watching for sure tonight and probably watch the replay as well.  Remember that Descendants premieres tonight at 8 PM on the Disney Channel followed by the series premiere of new series BUNK’D.

All About Descendants:

In a present day idyllic kingdom, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic “Beauty and the Beast”) is poised to take the throne.  His first proclamation:  offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella de Vil, Maleficent the Evil Queen and Jafar who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters.  These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evie and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes, including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan.  However, the evil teens face a dilemma.  Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?

Great Grains Cherry Crunch Parfait #GreatGrains

Great Grains Cherry Crunch Parfait

Summer always leads me to find creative ways to feed my family.  It’s so hot some days that cooking is out of the question.  Plus the kids are off from school so I want to make sure whatever I make for family is delicious but easy as well.  During the week when my husband is working we usually just wing it for breakfast.  The kids are usually only thinking of junk food so having a big breakfast is the last thing on their minds.  On the weekends I usually make a big breakfast for the whole family.  For those days during the week when we are winging it, cold cereal is usually our number one choice.

Great_Grains_Cherry_Crunch_Parfait

Great Grains sent me a box of their Banana Nut Crunch cereal to try along with a parfait set to see what I come up with.  I’ve never made my own parfait before usually I buy them from restaurants when we are out and I want something quick that’s not full of grease.  I didn’t realize how easy it was to make at home.  Plus I get to put whatever I want in my parfait.  I ended up make a Great Grains Cherry Crunch Parfait because I had some cherries in the refrigerator.  The good thing about making your own though is that you can create it to suit your own taste.

DSC_0386

DSC_0388

This cereal is so good, I could eat it out the box.  When you first open the bag you get a nice wiff of banana, that’s from the real bananas that’s baked into the multi grain flakes and clusters.  There’s lots of crunch from the addition of walnuts and almonds so you can see why it would be a grea addition to any parfait.

DSC_0391

Building the parfait is so easy, I used one of the glasses that I received in my package.  I choose a plain low fat yogurt but can choose any thing you like.  Greek yogurt is very popular right now and you could even try a yogurt with flavor already added to add even more variety to your parfait.  I spooned about two heaping spoons of yogurt into my glass, then a layer of cherries, on top of the cherries I added the Great Grains Banana Crunch Cereal.  I repeated the process again adding another layer of yogurt, followed by more cherries and topped it off with more cereal.  My glass isn’t that deep so I only had two layers but if you have a deeper glass you can totally change this up.  Doing alternating layers of cherries or whatever fruit you choose and then cereal in the next layer.

Hello From Camp Kikiwawa: BUNK’D Set Visit #BUNKDEvent

Hello From Camp Kikiwawa: BUNK’D Set Visit

Last month I attend came for the firs time ever.  Well I had the opportunity to visit the set of BUNK’D the new Disney Channel show which premieres this Friday, July 31st immediately after Descendants.  If you’ve seen previews of the show you probably are familiar with some of the BUNK’D cast, Peyton List, Karan Brar and Skai Jackson who plays Emma, Ravi and Zuri on Jessie are leaving their penthouse and heading to camp.  The show is set up as a spin-off from Jessie, and if you wondering what happened to Luke – played by Cameron Boyce you can catch him in his new Disney XD show Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything which airs on Wednesday at 9:30 PM.

bunkd

We had an opportunity to view a snippet of the new show while in L.A. before we visited the set.  When we arrived the cast were busy filming so we sat in a viewing room that usually reserved for parents/guardians of the kids on the show.  After watching them tape the scene we headed down to the commons area of the camp/set to chat with the cast.

The cast was super friendly when they talked to us about the show.  I wanted to know of course about the members who were moving over from Jessie and joining this new show.  They all were super excited about the new adventure although they all said they would miss their other cast mates who were not joining them on this show.  For Karan, Skai and Peyton though it must be comforting having some familiar faces on set, but they all agreed that this new show already feels like family.

About BUNK’D

Emma, Ravi, and Zuri Ross have left their New York penthouse for a summer at Maine’s rustic Camp Kikiwaka, where their parents met as teenagers. Now CITs (Counselors In Training), they must learn the ropes from the overly cheerful head counselor Lou and the camp heartthrob, Xander. Zuri makes new friends with two younger campers, the uptight Tiffany and compulsive fibber Jorge. The camp’s owner is Gladys and she’s even scarier than the legendary creature that’s rumored to stalk the grounds, and with help of her sneaky niece Hazel, she’s out to get the Ross kids because of her decades-old rivalry with their mom. Along with their new friends, Emma, Ravi and Zuri adapt to their new “home away from home” and settle into their exciting new lives at Camp Kikiwaka.

bunkd3

Karan, Skai and Peyton are not the only familiar faces on the show though, you may be familiar with Miranda May who play Lou on this show, but she also has a recurring role on Disney’s Liv & Maddie.

PEYTON LIST, MIRANDA MAY

When we were chatting with Miranda and Peyton we asked them about their plans for other career options.  Miranda was excited when she shared with us she wanted to start a fashion line for curvy girls and women.  She shared about her own frustration with shopping for clothes that just didn’t fit the way she wanted.  You could tell from the passion when she talked it was something she would enjoy doing as much as she enjoys acting.  She brings a lot of character and personality to this show.  Lou is funny, smart and a great influence on Emma.

disney press event (26)

I had to also ask Miranda about being on this show as opposed to Liv and Maddie, besides her having a bigger role on BUNK’D she said it’s a little different because on that show she was apart of the younger kids on set and on this show she’s in the older group of kids.

disney press event (25)

There’s no denying that Emma’s personality changes on this show and according to Peyton she believes that Emma really grows up as the show progresses.  She shared that her character’s whole style starts to change on this show and she’s more mature.  It will be interesting to see how all the Ross kids change now that they are at camp and not living in their penthouse anymore.

disney press event (28)

Kevin Quinn who plays Xander on the show talked to us with Karan.  They both had great things to say about the show.  Kevin talked about his secrets to making it in Hollywood.  He said instead of moving to Hollywood he stayed in his hometown of Chicago working and improving his skills, then when he started landing roles he made the move.  It makes perfect sense to me.

Doogal grossed $26.7 million worldwide and stars the voices of Daniel Tay, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart, Bill Nighy, Whoopi Goldberg and Robbie Williams.

Red-Carpet-Big-Hero-6

I have a very special connection to Big Hero 6 and Frozen.  I attended two blogger trips with Disney for both these movies.  My very first was Frozen and I had the opportunity to chat with the directors, lend my voice to Olaf, played around with rigging the character and animation and more.  For Big Hero 6 I attended the red carpet premiere.  It was my first time and only time ever doing that.  Such a fun experience.  I also did a Baymax voice over, talked with the directors, interviewed Honey Lemon and GoGo, and learned about drawing Baymax and the holiday gifts they had coming up.  Be sure to chose those blog posts out and tune in to Starz starting on August 1st to catch all these Amazing Animations.
