Yummy Ways to Cook with Steak
Steak is a great choice when you are celebrating something or just feel like treating yourself and your family. I have a recipe book full of delicious ways to serve up steak, and here are just a few of the yummiest.
Fried steak
So comforting and indulgent at the same time, fried steak with chips is a firm favorite in my family. I also love how the meal changes drastically depending on what accompanying sauce you make. When it’s the central part of the meal like this, I always source the meat from a quality butcher like Donald Russell. After seasoning the steaks, I simply place them in a very hot pan and sear for around three minutes on each side for well done. Naturally, the timing will alter depending on how you like it cooked and the thickness and cut of your steak. I serve these with shoestring fries a big green salad and one of our family favorite sauces (chimichurri or peppercorn).
Grilled steak
After preparing a grilled steak recipe for Father’s Day, I became really interested in other ways to eat grilled steak. Grilling the meat adds a smoky taste while keeping the meat lovely and tender. Our favorite marinade for grilled steak is a mixture of lemon, parsley, olive oil, mustard and paprika. It creates a really fresh and zingy taste to the steak without overpowering its natural flavour. You can use a barbecue or griddle pan to grill your steaks. I just turn them every minute or so until they are cooked to our liking. Slice them and serve them with grilled vegetables and fluffy rice.
Slow cooked
The slow cooker is my best friend. You just throw all the ingredients in there and let it work its magic. Perfect for busy Moms and Dads! Steak is usually associated with high heat and quick cooking. However, I recently tried out a Chinese-style slow cooked steak recipe and the whole family loved it! The meat is so tender and the sauce becomes so flavorful after a few hours of cooking. Simply brown strips of sirloin in a pan and add to the slow cooker. Then add your other ingredients (stock, vegetables, soy sauce and seasoning) and leave to cook for as long as possible. Serve with noodles or rice. Yummy!
Raw
With good quality meat, raw steak can be absolutely delicious. Usually kids will turn their noses up at this meal, so one for a romantic night or for a party with your friends. Steak tartare is raw beef chopped up finely and served with an array of condiments including shallots, eggs, chives and capers. Although it is tasty, I would usually leave it up to the professionals to prepare. I also love beef carpaccio as a way to eat raw beef. I serve these wafer-thin slices of meat with olive oil, lemon, shavings of parmesan and rocket salad.
Steak is such a versatile meat and, as you can see, I love preparing healthy and delicious family meals with it. I hope you enjoyed this post and get some ideas for your own family meals from it.
