What’s the Hubbub with Jackée Harry – 227, Sister Sister & More
Last night I was a bag of nerves because I was getting to interview Jackée Harry via Google Hangout as a part of the Hub Club. It was my very first time doing anything for The Hub so I was so nervous I just didn’t know how it would go. I got on to test my audio before the interview and then I found out that there were only three of us interviewing Jackée and on top of that I was going first (que the shakes). Soon the program was starting and before you knew it I was laughing and chatting and asking regular questions like I’ve known her for years. It was so much fun. Ted Biaselli the Vice President of programming was the host and he made the whole experience so fun and exciting. Before I knew it the interview was coming to an end and I was so excited for the amazing opportunity. So I bet you’re wondering “What’s the Hubbub?” The Hubbub is the Hub Network’s web series in which they interview talent from their shows and invite bloggers to ask them questions. Last night was the inaugural episode so I felt even more honored and special.
Jackée Harry is an Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Sandra Clark on “227”. Jackée who was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina started her acting career in 1973 with a small part in a play written by Richard Wesley. She started her television career in 1983 along side a then unknown Morgan Freeman in the daytime soap Another World. It was in 1985 that she landed her iconic role on “227” as the sexy and sophisticated Sandra. I can still remember her role on the show. It’s one that most people remember her for and it help launched her into the spotlight. Jackée had several roles between her departure from 227 in 1989 and when she landed the role as adoptive mother of Tia, one of the twins sisters separated at birth on the show Sister Sister. Also in 1994 she made her return to theatre and even had a run on reality television when she appeared on Celebrity Fit club in 2005. Despite all her accomplishments she’s not stopping there, Jackée plans to continue her work in the entertainment field.
I truly enjoyed chatting with Jackée and you can check out the entire chat your self below.
I also want to share some of the questions we asked and talk about what she had to say. The first question I asked her was “Did the twins very tried to play tricks on her while on the show Sister, Sister” Jackée stated “No, they couldn’t trick me. They would try to play tricks on people like they would come in with one color sweater or shirt on and then switch to see if they could trick anyone. They couldn’t get me though.” She also stated that she meet the girls when they were nine and acting as chorus girls in a play. She also shared some of the things she taught them while on the show like laughing at themselves when something happens. She also shared how she is still in contact with the twins as well as Marques Houston. Jackée said she considered herself more of a role model instead of a mom to the girls when Tori of The TV Mom asked her about her time on set with the twins. Tori also asked her about her time on Celebrity Fit club and that made her share a juicing tip that could help with weight loss and surprisingly hair growth. Jackée said get a juicer – get some kale, ginger, lemon juice and celery, put it in your juicer, strain it and enjoy. She also said it helps curb your appetite. She suggest to have it in-between meals instead of snacking. She also said it help boost your energy.
I also asked her about who she wanted to work with that she hasn’t yet and she stated Tyler Perry. Daisy of The It Mom also followed up that question asking in what kind of role would Jackée want to work with Tyler Perry on and she responded by saying she wanted to play Madea’s niece. Daisy also asked her questions about balancing her work life and life as a parent. When I asked her about her role as Sandra on 227 she opened up about being type cast and how she never intended to stay that long on the show. She shared how being sexy was a burden in Hollywood and it can be good at first but it’s also hard. She shared about how she couldn’t believe she did the role and got away with what she did. When Ted mentioned how the role launched her career she said she had to come to terms with the fact the role did help but at first she didn’t see it that way. There’s so much information that she shared about her life, her son, acting, health and so much more. Please be sure to take the time and watch the whole thing. She was very warm, friendly and open. It was like chatting with an old friend.
