Thoughts On the Subaru Impreza
During my two years reviewing cars I have had the chance to drive some nice automobiles. During that time frame, however, I have never had the opportunity to drive a Subaru. I was excited when a Subaru Rep offered me the chance to drive their 2017 Impreza 2.0i Limited.
Reshaping Old Preceptions
In the past 4 years, Subaru has been reshaping their brand to accommodate the quality engineering they were already known for. Their campaign seems to be working, Subaru automobiles are all the rage with my younger colleagues in my office. The warranty and safety features they offer are the cool thing to have now. So as I watch the guys fresh out of college at work start buying Subarus it peaked my interest, I just remember the commercial from when I was a kid that said it’s not a car, it’s a Subaru, now I get to experience it for myself.
Features and Design to Love
Looking at the Impreza you see a family hatchback but it is a lot more than that. We will start under the hood. I was surprised to see the Impreza was powered by 4 cylinder Boxer engine however the direct injection gives it a nice kick. The 152 horsepower is subtle but powerful enough to feel the burst when you hit the gas. The handling on the Impreza is superb! There is a trail by my home the is comprised of winding roads, hills, and sharp curves that my children love to ride on. I use it as my test drive road for any car I review. The Impreza did wonderful on the stretch of road, it hugged the curves well, braked hard enough for us to stop but not so hard that you felt that annoying jerking motion.
Efficiency is with the Impreza is great, getting an amazing 37 miles on the highway, 27 miles in the city, and 31 miles combined, this Subaru goes through a gas tank of 13.2 gallons in about a week.
Stay Connected While Traveling
Style wise you see a hatchback but this most definitely not your mommas station! The Impreza is bold and full of features. Everything from push button start with keyless entry to 17-inch chrome wheels let you know to expect something different. The interior has a leather wrapped dash, carbon fiber panel trim, it looks like something James Bond would drive. The sunroof is perfect those perfect summer days. I would of love to see is either a panoramic roof or dual sun roofs in the car.
The Impreza’s electronic features are pretty cool as well. The highlight would be the 8-inch touchscreen, which serves as both a media center for Sirius radio and provides navigation options. The Impreza is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Regardless of your cell phone choice, you’re sure to remain connected in this car. Pair that with the Harmon Kardon six speaker sound system and you have a can’t miss formula for success.
It wouldn’t be a Subaru if it didn’t have the world class safety features. Blind spot detection, pre collision braking, and lane change assist are standard features on the Impreza 2.0i Limited. Overall I was extremely pleased with my Impreza driving experience. I loved the overall ride, Harmon Kardon sound system, and the touchscreen tech center. Kudos to you Subaru, it’s really not just a car!
