My Thoughts:

My children are one, four and five so I really liked sharing the message with them of “No Bullying”.  My two older kids had an anti-bullying rally at their elementary school so the book came just in time for me to help them understand the meaning of being a bully and why it’s important for them to not bully others and more importantly stand up for others as well.  This book provides both in a very simple and easy way for kids to understand the message.  It will require reading the book multiple times but I don’t mind sharing the lesson with them at least once a month so they continue to learn the behavior.  Hugo is a little starfish that started an Anti-Bully Club because his friend was being bullied, that was a huge factor for me because I had the opportunity to share with my children what they should do if they see a friend being bullied.  Today too many people just stand around and watch, even worst video tape other people being bullied and abused.  I am teaching my children to take a stand.

I loved the message of Hugo being scared but still speaking up to help others and because of his courage others came to his aid when he needed it.  I also found that the book had a few Spanish phrases written in the story.  Nothing big but it was a great twist and a chance for my children to pick up some words and phrases.  Overall I would say it’s a very cool book especially with all the cases of bullying in schools I like that I can teach my children the lesson of Respect for Other at a young age with The Last Bully.
