Summer break is in full swing in our neck of the woods. The kids still have about five weeks off before they head back to school. During the summer it’s hard to keep the kids focused on school and learning. To help combat the summer drain of information from the kid’s memory bank, we’ve been encouraging them to do is to read. Reading helps them to stay in practice with studying and learning even though they aren’t aware that’s what’s happening.

In late spring, I shared some great books from Zonderkidz that were perfect for kids, and now I’m back with some more amazing books touching on various subjects for the kids. You can add a number of these to your kids summer reading list.
The Wonder That is You
A heartwarming book that beautifully captures the universal love and joy parents feel as they celebrate the arrival of their new child. A perfect gift for baby showers, baptisms, adoptions, birthdays, or any time you want to tell your little one how much they are loved.
Something special happens when a child is in your arms as you read them this book. Something you and your little one will never, ever forget.
It felt as if the world stood still
The day my dream came true,
And all creation paused to see
The wonder that is you.
Wonder That Is You is:
- Not only a perfect gift for new babies, but also a precious story to read aloud with big brothers and sisters in anticipation of the new arrival
- A heartwarming way to tell your children or grandchildren of any age how special they are and how much that are loved
- A soothing bedtime book that will have your little ones falling fast asleep in your loving arms
This book was supposed to be released this summer. I know it’s weird to start my list with a book that’s not on the market but I do want to mention it so it’s on your radar for when it’s available for purchase. This book is great for new parents or as a gift for reading with your own child. It’s a heartwarming story about a new life. I loved it. I even read it with all my kids so they know just how special they are to me and how excited I was when each of them was added to our family.

Seek and Explore Devotions for Kids
The Seek and Explore Book of Devotions is a full-color, interactive journey through every book of the Bible—365 days (plus one for leap day!) of reading and hands-on activities, like journaling, crosswords, word searches, puzzles, and more. During each week, your child will learn about one or two books of the Bible in short, easy-to-handle activities. Whether reading, writing, drawing, crafting, moving, or going out into the world, kids will learn about the Bible, God, and themselves. By the end of this interactive journey, your child will have a better understanding of the Bible as the story of God’s people and his love for them. Perfect for a child to use on his own, as a family, in a classroom, or even in a Sunday school setting, this devotional is unique and engaging for ages 6–10.
I like this devotional because each week it gives the user prompts. Each week it challenges them to Read About It, Think About It, Write About It, Pray About It, and Do Something About it. I like that it allows them to take a deep dive into whatever they are learning. I really like the action portions of this devotional. It’s not just about your child learning and exploring the bible, but also about them praying, writing, and doing something about what they have learned.
