Spending Time in Giant Country: My BFG Red Carpet Experience
There was a heat wave in California during #TheBFGEvent this week, when we arrived the high was 110 degrees outside. I think you could fry and egg on the ground due to the heat. Luckily one of the local bloggers shared with our group before the trip, the anticipated temperature for the time during our trip. I ended up choosing one of my Eva Mendes dresses from New York & Company. It was light enough to wear in all the heat.
Tuesday afternoon arrived and it was still very hot outside, we all got dressed nicely and arrived about five minutes early for the red carpet. While standing waiting to start the walk down the carpet we spotted a few of the kids from the new Disney Channel show ‘Stuck in the Middle’. That was the beginning of our celebrity sighting for the evening. Once we started walking across the red carpet, we were able to snap all kinds of exciting pictures to capture all our memories from the night. Our early arrival and the heat worked out for our benefit because we had most of the carpet to ourselves.
My favorite part of the red carpet where the Giant Country props that were placed on at the end of the carpet. I had a fun time trying to lift The BFG’s bag. I wasn’t strong enough to even make it budge. Once we finished up on the red carpet we walked across the street to Hard Rock Cafe for the pre-party, and to cool down. Guests were greeted with glasses of wine and a fun sundae bar at the front of the restaurant. Once you walked in further you could try some of the cool burgers from the World Burger Tour menu.
After dinner, there was a digital photo opportunity for party guests. We ended up at the entrance Hard Rock people watching, soon after it was time to head to the El Captian Theatre to screen the movie for a second time. It was even better than it was the first time.
“The BFG” opens in U.S. theaters on July 1, 2016, the year that marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth.
About The BFG
The BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle.
Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London, is initially frightened of the mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but soon comes to realize that the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming, and, having never met a giant before, has many questions. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams.
