SheaMoisture African Black Soap Eczema & Psoriasis Soap Review

I wasn’t aware of what Eczema was until I started dating my husband. I didn’t know it would then end up affecting our children and eventually myself as well. At first I just thought that my daughter had sensitive skin, but after a visit to the dermatologist we found out that she had eczema as well as a skin condition called Dermatographism. Slowly one by one each of my kids started to have some form of eczema and our newborn has had skin issues from birth. I’ve tried just about everything under the sun and we live in Hydrocortisone in our house but that’s not enough. I had read that Goat Milk Soap was a good alternative and so I invested in that and abandoned regular soaps. When I got my package from SheaMoisture with their men’s hair care line it included a bar of their African Black Soap Eczema & Psoriasis Therapy Medicated Soap to try as well and it’s been the best thing that we’ve used thus far.
I have loved using this bar of soap with my family. I plan to get more to continue to use it because it worked so well for me. I had an awful rash on my arm and I would scratch it all the time. My doctor indicated it was some for of eczema and using Hydrocortisone on it regularly but the problem is I wanted it to clear up. I didn’t want to just keep it moisturized. I took some pictures to show how it’s changed over the course of three weeks since using the soap. I hope you can see how it’s clearing up and most importantly drying out and slowly going away.
As you can see there are lots of red spots that was always irritated and you can see I was getting scarbs from constant scratching. I tried not to itch it because it would continue to spread and it was taking over my arm. This was taken the first day I used the soap.
As you can see in this picture from today (about three weeks of using the soap) the rash is clearing up. I wish I could get a better photo but what is mostly left if just discoloration of my skin from scratching and a few small scabs. The rash has stopped spreading and my skin is feeling much better. It’s also worked wonders with my husband’s eczema which is usually horrible during winter months because his heavy sweaters would cause him to itch. It’s even worked great on our six and five year old skins as well. We love it and I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for some relief from eczema.
About the Eczema & Psoriasis Soap:
SheaMoisture and CVS have teamed up to launch two “first aid” medicated soaps from SheaMoisture, a leading mass market natural beauty brand. Starting in late 2013/early 2014, 6,000 CVS stores will carry the two new hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested cleansing bars aimed at relieving eczema, psoriasis and inflammation-prone skin. The soaps won’t be available in the beauty section of the stores, but in the first aid section.
“Our community expressed their need for products that soothe eczema, psoriasis and inflammation, without synthetic ingredients such as hydrocortisone, which can be harmful to skin when used over time. The treatments we created weren’t born in a lab. We based these remedies on our family recipes, and made them in culturally authentic ways to preserve the effectiveness of these time-tested formulas,” says Richelieu Dennis, founder and CEO of SheaMoisture.
The soaps include:
- African Black Soap Eczema & Psoriasis Therapy Medicated Soap – Made using a proprietary blend of African Black Soap and certified organic Shea Butter, the soap is clinically proven to relieve symptoms of eczema and psoriasis. It’s made in a traditional way, just as it’s been done for centuries in Africa. Leaves, cocoa pods, shea tree bark and plantains are burned to an ash, which gives the soap its naturally black color, with coconut oil and shea butter, combined to the mix. Other key ingredients include Aloe Vera, Lemon Balm, Sea Wrack, and Gotu Kola.
- Indian Hemp & Shea Butter Inflammation Therapy Medicated Soap – This moisturizing bar soap is clinically proven to calm inflamed and irritated skin. It features a proprietary blend of Hemp Oil and certified organic Shea Butter — two ingredients known to moisturize skin and reduce inflammation. Specially formulated with Calendula Extract (a natural anti-inflammatory), Neem Oil (used in Ayurvedic medicine for its antifungal benefits) and Tea Tree Oil (reduces redness and has natural antibacterial properties).
The high percentage of fatty acid-rich Shea Butter in both soaps is ethically sourced from seven women’s coops in Northern Ghana. SheaMoisture works directly with the women to pay them above market prices for their shea butter.
Each five ounce bar soap has a suggested retail price of $4.99.
