About the book:
Mike and Amy Smith are nervous about moving from their nice house in Boston to a dilapidated old mansion in Falton, New Hampshire. They know they’ll have to start the sixth and seventh grade not knowing anyone, and their new house is just plain creepy.
While searching their dusty attic, Mike and Amy uncover an old wooden chest with a mysterious lock. Inside, they find magical red shirts that give them special powers. Together with a new friend, Sam, Mike and Amy must figure out how to harness their newfound gifts while keeping them secret from their parents. My Thoughts:
This is a great book for kids ages 8-12. It’s going to make a great gift for my nephew and I know he love to read it. The story is intriguing from the start all the way to the end of the book. The best part about this book is that hidden in the adventures of the Red Skirt Kids are life lessons for young kids. It’s a hard book to put down and that’s coming from an adult. If you have an avid reader they are going to devour this book up. The best part is that it’s going to be a part of a series so there will be lots of other adventures to discover with Mike and Amy. It’s amazing that this book started as bedtime stories Kim Clark use to tell his children when they were young, even better that Bryce Clark decided to honor his father is such an amazing way by penning these stories to share with others. Bruce stated “My goal was always to tell the most entertaining story possible, but I also wanted to honor the lessons my father passed on in his telling of these stories. I knew that in a work of fiction you can’t just tell kids bullying is bad, be a good friend, or develop your talents, so I created a story where those ideas would be important in the kids ‘winning’ in the end.” I highly recommend you add this book to your gift list for your young kids.
