Old Fashioned Movie Review

June 15, 2015 By Nickida

Old Fashioned Movie Review

I’m not an old fashioned person, very far from it actually but I can honestly say that I love some of the old fashioned ways.  When I read about the movie Old Fashioned I immediately was intrigued to learn more about it and to see it for myself.  I received a copy of Old Fashioned the movie for review from Propeller Promotions, any opinions expressed are my own.

About Old Fashioned:

old fashionedA romantic-drama, OLD FASHIONED centers on Clay Walsh, a former frat boy who gives up his reckless carousing and now runs an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town. There, he has become notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance as well as for his devout belief in God. When Amber Hewson, a free-spirited young woman with a restless soul, drifts into the area and rents the apartment above his shop, she finds herself surprisingly drawn to his strong faith and noble ideas, which are new and intriguing to her. And Clay, though he tries to fight and deny it, simply cannot resist being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life. Ultimately, Clay must step out from behind his relational theories and Amber must overcome her own fears and deep wounds as the two of them, together, attempt the impossible: an “old-fashioned” and God-honoring courtship in contemporary America.
My thoughts:
Old Fashioned reminded me of true love.  The two main characters in this movie had their own baggage they were carrying around.  Each different but baggage all the same.  Baggage can ruin any relationship and the baggage that Clay and Amber was carrying around slowly started to threaten their budding romance.  Amber who was running away from a toxic relationship found Clay to be refreshing and a breathe of fresh air.  He wasn’t like anyone she dated in the past and that made her very attracted to him despite his strong beliefs.  Honestly I believe those beliefs are what drew her to him in the first place but as their relationship grew, baggage from her past started to creep up and cause her to become insecure.  She knew he didn’t believe in dating and he made a promise to himself about intimacy before marriage but as her feelings got stronger she felt like he didn’t want her.  She started to push back and was ready to run once things got a little rough.
Clay tried hard to resist Amber.  He tried to bury his growing feelings for her and tried his best to ignore her.  Amber uses her position as his tenant to get to spend time with Clay and eventually he’s so drawn to her he gives in and they start dating but on his terms.  As they grow closer he starts to give Amber some lead way regarding their dating lives and you can see the change in him.  Clay though is still dragging luggage from college and although he’s changed his life drastically and has been living a good life since.  Ultimately Clay has to forgive himself and move on from the past so her can truly love Amber.  Old Fashioned will have you cheering for this couple and hoping that true love wins in the end.  It’s refreshing and moving.  Its lots of great ideas for dating that modern day couples could use to build strong relationships.  It’s a great movie for all kinds of couples whether they are married or just dating.  Old Fashioned arrives on DVD June 16th.  Be sure to look for it in stores.
