New Queen of Katwe Featurette
Last month during #TheBFGEvent I had the opportunity to screen Queen of Katwe, at the time the twenty-five bloggers in the room were the first press to see the movie. Prior to getting invited on the trip I had spent hours on Youtube learning about the young lady that inspired this movie, based on a book she had written about her lift. I can’t wait to share my full review of the movie with you but for today I’ll just be sharing a new featurette about the movie with you.
Queen of Katwe based on the vibrant true story of a young girl from the streets of rural Uganda who becomes an international chess champion, opens in theatres on September 23rd.
“Queen of Katwe” is the colorful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion. Directed by Mira Nair (“Monsoon Wedding”) from a screenplay by William Wheeler (“The Hoax”) based on the book by Tim Crothers, “Queen of Katwe” is produced by Lydia Dean Pilcher (“The Darjeeling Limited”) and John Carls (“Where the Wild Things Are”) with Will Weiske and Troy Buder serving as executive producers. The film stars Golden Globe® nominee David Oyelowo (“Selma”), Oscar® winner and Tony Award® nominee Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave”) and newcomer Madina Nalwanga.
Nickida
Nickida is a first-generation Trinidadian American wife and mother of four. She enjoys sharing recipes from her childhood growing up in Trinidad with her readers. Nickida has a son with Autism and shares posts around traveling with a child with special needs to help other families like her own. She loves television, movies and is a true 80's baby.
