As the summer box office heats up, audiences are looking ahead to new releases. With many studio films and independent features alike on the horizon, there is plenty of new content for movie fans to look forward to. Below are some of the most anticipated films of 2019. Spider-Man: Far From Home
Following the record-breaking successes of Avengers: Endgame, the continuation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe falls to everyone’s favorite friendly neighborhood hero. Tom Holland’s now beloved Peter Parker is set to take on the challenge of continuing the saga’s momentum in July. The film is expected to do well, especially coming off of the excitement of Spider-Man’s involvement in the events of Avengers: Endgame. Fans of the franchise are looking forward to seeing more.
The Lion King
With Disney showing no signs of stopping its string of live-action adaptations any time soon, the next release on the docket will be The Lion King. The iconic film, first released in 1994, will get a new look and new cast for this 2019 release. Some notable voices are in the mix (James Earl Jones is set to reprise his role as patriarch Mufasa) but fans are perhaps most excited to see and hear Beyoncé onscreen as Nala.
Joker
Many iterations of the story of Batman’s notable nemesis have been told before, but there has already been a lot of buzz around this new take set for October. With an all-star cast that includes Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and the ever-versatile Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role, comic book fans can be assured that this film will be unlike any Joker story told before.
The Goldfinch
The novel on which this film is based won a Pulitzer Prize for its highly emotional journey of self-discovery. With Nicole Kidman, Ansel Elgort, Finn Wolfhard, Sarah Paulson and Jeffrey Wright confirmed to bring the story to life onscreen, fans of the book and strangers to the story can all find something to be excited about. True film fans will also be excited to know that famed cinematographer Roger Deakins will be lending his talents to the production as well. After winning his first Academy Award in 2018 after fourteen previous nominations, Deakins will be once again building his distinct style into the world of The Goldfinch.Between these films and many more, 2019 is shaping up to be an exciting year at the movies.
