Christmas is just over two weeks away and I’m sharing about a great gift idea for anyone still looking for a gift to put under their tree. I’m a big techie. I love having my hands on the newest technology and seeing how much it has advanced since I was younger. I’ve had my hands on the new Lenovo Yoga 730 for a past few weeks and I have to admit I’m in love with this 2-in-1 laptop.
Disclosure: This post is in partnership with Lenovo, any opinions expressed are my own.
Full disclosure I wasn’t in the market for a new laptop. I wasn’t planning on shopping for one anytime soon since my current laptop works perfectly fine. I just purchased one for my daughter as a graduation gift, and my husband has been using his Lenovo Yoga Tablet for at least two years. However, when Lenovo reached out about reviewing the new Yoga 730 I couldn’t say no. My husband loves the tablet he’s been using for the last two years, but with his recent job change, I knew this was a perfect opportunity to gift him an upgrade this year for Christmas.
I’ve been testing out the Lenovo Yoga 730 for a couple of weeks, so I can write my review and share my thoughts with you. My first impressions out of the box, it’s a sleep design, nice platinum color all around.
Sleek & Simple Design
This Lenovo Yoga 730 is 15 inches in size. It’s sleek and simple in design but it looks chic and classy. It’s the perfect laptop for anyone, especially my husband. It easily transforms from a laptop to a tablet with a quick fold. When you fold over a notification asks if you want to enter tablet mode. You can choose to always get the notification or have the computer remember and never be asked again.
Fast and Portable
When I opened up the Yoga 730 I was surprised at how lightweight it was. It weighs less than five pounds, so all you need is a good laptop bag or backpack to carry this around. I have used it for hours on my lap before feeling it was getting heavy. I also love the flexibility of being able to flip it to tablet mode and continue working and using it once it does start to feel heavy on my legs.
The processor on this laptop has made me reconsider so many elements of Windows I’ve given up on in the past. It has the latest 8th generation Intel® Core i7 processors, so it gives the Yoga 730 up to a 40 percent performance boost* with unprecedented touchscreen and pen responsiveness, faster bootups, and seamless multitasking. You can do everything at the drop of a dime with this laptop. I was highly impressed with how fast it responded when I would open apps, start programs, play games and movies.
Built-In User Support
One tile I immediately opened when I started using the Lenovo Yoga 730 was the Lenovo tile. It’s a little light blue box with a while L in the middle. Opening it takes you to a helpful screen with lots of great information about your new laptop. I can easily access the device’s make & model, serial number and more. There’s so much information to get you started with using the device. Starting with a suggestion of apps for you to install on your laptop, tips and tricks, system update, hardware settings, and more. I recommend getting familiar with this section of your laptop. It will be helpful even after you’ve become acclimated with your computer.
Easy Email Setup
I can’t tell you how incredibly easy it is to set up email on the laptop. Simply open the mail app and follow the directions based on your email client. I have both Hotmail and Gmail set up in my main box. Both accounts are separated so I don’t get them confused. You can also personalize your inbox so it works for you.
Built for Work
Microsoft Office Suite is preinstalled on the laptop. You can click on the tiles to either activate your trial offer or purchase a license to use the product. If you already own Microsoft Office check to see if you can use it on another device. There are also other apps in the Microsoft Store you can download and use.
Security at Your Fingertips
When I say security at your fingertips, I mean that literally. I love this feature on the Lenovo Yoga 730. They added an extra layer of security to help you log into your Yoga 730, make payment via PayPal and more. Set it up in Windows Hello. Passwords are a thing of the past with his new feature.
Crystal Clear Picture and High Quality Sound
Watching movies on this device is better than any other laptop and tablet I’ve owned in the past. I know it’s a bold statement but I stand by it. Netflix comes preloaded, all you have to do is log into your account. Lenovo packed more than 8 million pixels into the 15” wide-angle display edged with super-thin bezels (6.55mm sides / 9.65mm top). You’ll be watching the latest in theatrical quality video, movies, and TV exactly the way they were meant to be seen. With 300 nits brightness, you’ll see every detail.
I’ve written several posts about Dolby Atmos. The sound quality is beyond anything I’ve heard in this world. You can sign up for Dolby Atmos for your home theater for free if your tv or soundbar is compatible. Dolby Atmos makes you feel like you’re inside the movie you’re watching. You can hear and feel the sound all around you. There is also a feature for headphones you can purchase. Click on the Dolby tile on the home screen to learn more.
Add Accessories for Additional Features
Although this isn’t a feature I tested I wanted to highlight you can add accessories to get additional features on your Yoga 730. The best part is the price. Adding the Lenovo Active Pen 2 will cost you $35 roughly, so it’s a very affordable accessory to add. The Lenovo Active Pen 2 provides a natural feel of a pen-on-paper experience, with 4,096 levels of pen sensitivity enable you to draw, color and paint with painstaking detail.
Get an Assist from Cortana
Once you are done setting up your Yoga 730, get started with Cortana. She’s super easy to use and very responsive. I ask her all kinds of questions when I don’t feel like searching the internet. When you’re looking for a little assistance click on the circle in your home tray at the bottom of the screen and ask away.
My Short Cons List
Honestly it wouldn’t be fair to not share my short cons list with you. It’s incredibly short but worth mentioning. I wasn’t impressed with the battery life on this tablet. In an effort to be completely transparent it’s better than my more expensive laptop I currently use, but that’s two years old. It needs a tune up. When working on my blog and testing it out I found a full charge lasted me between twelve and fifteen hours. Although I supposed if you’re not doing as much as I was it would absolutely last longer.
I’m not a huge fan of Internet Explorer. It wasn’t bad at all and I actually used it for a week before adding a different web browser. That’s more personal preference than a con because it does work pretty well on the Lenovo Yoga 730. My last con is another feature that really has nothing to do with the actual device. With Windows you have to have antivirus protection. Since I didn’t set any up during my testing, I was constant getting pop-up reminders to sign up. It was a bit annoying. However outside of those there wasn’t anything else.
If you’re looking for a great gift for the holidays or even after I highly suggest you give the Lenovo Yoga 730 a try. It’s a great laptop that’s chic, built with superior features, and lots of high end extras. It’s worth every penny you’ll spend, and be sure to add some accessories.
