Into the Woods Movie Review
Into the Woods was one movie I was looking forward to all year, last year. I couldn’t wait for it to be released, and it made a great date night movie for hubby and I. Into the Woods was released on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, DVD and Disney Movies Anywhere on March 24th. If you haven’t gone out and picked up the movie yet, you definitely should. I was provided a copy of Into the Woods for review. Any opinions expressed are my own.
I wasn’t familiar with the Into the Woods original musical so when I went to the movies with my husband I didn’t know what to expect. This movie isn’t like other Disney fairy tales. Yes there are princesses, princes, witches, and even sings birds but this was not your average Disney fairy tale. It really felt like a movie for adults although it’s not violent or scary and kids could still enjoy it, especially if they like musicals. I love that this movie kept to the original music and told the tale sort of like the Grimm Brothers. Like Prince Charming hitting on the baker’s wife, totally threw me for a loop. Who would have thought the prince would cheat. Oh and Cinderella birds picking out the eyes of her evil step sisters when she was leaving with the prince. My favorite scene was the when the two princes were singing the song “Agony” at the stream/falls. They were both so dramatic I couldn’t stop laughing.
`If you haven’t seen Into the Woods yet I suggest you pick it up as soon as possible. Meryl Streep did a fantastic job along with James Corden and Emily Blunt. I’ve even added the soundtrack to my play list because I just can’t get enough. To celebrate the release of the movie Disney Home Entertainment hosted an in-home release party. Here’s some tributes from Broadway talent to Stephen Sondheim.
