It’s officially Thanksgiving Day in the US and I have been sharing all month what I have been thankful for but there is still so much more. Today I am especially thankful that we have our mother. Last year for thanksgiving my mother was in the hospital, we had recently discovered her memory loss and other side effects of her stroke. She was depressed and she hadn’t started walking on her own yet. We didn’t do much at home because we wanted to be with her. We wanted her to know that her family was there for her even though she didn’t see us as her family. We cooked early and headed to the hospital before noon. We all ate there, we shared our meal with other families around and staff. We even took our kids hoping they might help with her memory. We stayed with her until about 8 PM that night and then headed home so we could grab a nap before Black Friday shopping. After we finished shopping we all went home took naps, freshened up and headed back to the hospital on Friday. This is like her first Thanksgiving and we plan to make it a memorable one for her and for us. We also plan to take her out a little bit for Black Friday shopping so she can experience that as well. We are so blessed to still have her in our lives and that is something to be extremely thankful for.
I am also very thankful for my own family. My husband and kids are tremendous blessings and constant reminders of how precious life is. These gifts are in so many different packages but all the same – priceless. I couldn’t imagine life without these four people and I thank God for blessing them and keeping them safe, healthy and protected each and every day. I am thankful for all pass, present and future blessings.
I hope you and your family and loved ones have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving.
