I’m Back In The Recording Booth…
Yes that’s right I’m back in the recording booth and this time as Baymax. In February when I attended my #FrozenDVD Press Trip we had the chance to get in the voice recording booth, the same room where lots of the actors and actresses recorded their voices as well. It was awesome and on my recent trip we did it again. I was invited on an all expenses paid trip to LA with Disney and ABC Television.
One thing people always want to know about doing voice over is how hard is it. Being that we only get one shot at recording our small blurb it’s all about timing. My first time in the booth we followed the script on the screen. There was a bouncing ball, kind of like karaoke and it was about being on timing with the wording. It’s not till you get in the booth do you realize that we all have different patterns to the way we talk. Some people are slow packed and others race fast. According to the Recording Engineer Michael Weissman it takes several different takes to get just the right line when recording a movie. Sometimes they make you come back and record just a word or two to go along with the other portion. It’s a lot of clipping and pasting together, so considering we get one shot I think we all did an amazing job.
I chose to go second, since this wasn’t my first time I didn’t hang back, this time we had to read a script and listen for three chimes as our que. Needless to say I was so focused on the cartoon on-screen I was a bit off. Check out the rough cut of me recording my first take. Luckily I got a chance to record it again.

This stuff was harder than I remembered but needless to say I got to do it again and I was determined to make sure I got it right this time. I focused and didn’t want any distractions.
The second time I didn’t even bother looking at the screen I just focused on the script and I have to say I was pleased with the end result. Here’s my little clip as Baymax. Can you hear my accent?

Don’t forget that Big Hero 6 is in theaters everywhere now. If you haven’t seen it yet then be sure to check it out this weekend. It’s a great family movie.
