If you are like us and unfortunately caught in the path of Hurricane Sandy, first I would like to say that I hope you and your family keep safe and that you don’t suffer any major issues relating to the storm. We are in MD and that means that we will be getting some of the effects of Sandy. Fortunately we are not in NJ (Praying for everyone in the direct path) but there will be lots of high winds in MD and lots of rain as well. Schools are already closed for tomorrow and who know what Tuesday will bring. What I do know is that Halloween will be affected for us and I know that this is already making the kids sad. We already have costumes and they were so excited, so I started thinking of some fun ideas to do with our kids and wanted to share them with you.
- They are already anticipating power outages in MD, so we have already talked to the kids about what to do if they wake up and its totally dark, if we do lose power we plan to have a camp in. We’ll all bunk up in the master bedroom or the living room and tell spooky stories, eat marshmallows and maybe even play a family game.
- Since it looks like the storm will be on its way out on Halloween we plan to have dress up day. The kids get to wear their costumes and have fun in the house, we will have a candy treasure hunt with the kids so they can get a few pieces of candy.
- We live in an apartment and I know there are a few families that also have children so while its still light outside we plan to have the kids make small treat bags for the kids and have them deliver it in costume. This way they get to share something with others who are also being affected by the storm.
The most important thing to us is safety during the storm. We hope that its not really bad and that we can do some of the things I listed with our kids but if we can’t then we plan to just camp in until its safe for use to do other things. Hopefully we don’t lose power and internet during the storm because that would make things so much easier. Hoping for the best for anyone in the path of the storm and for us. Be safe guys and please stay off the road once the weather gets worst.
