About What Your Heart Needs for the Hard Days:
We all have hard days. The kind that make us want to pull the covers back over our heads, move to Hawaii, or eat a dozen cupcakes. Deep inside we know those aren’t the best options for our lives or our thighs. So what’s a girl to do?
Thankfully, Jesus said we don’t “live on bread alone”—that includes cupcakes—“but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matt. 4:4). That means while we may crave all kinds of things, what we really need is truth. We need to know who God is and what he’s promised us. We need to remember who we are and have confidence that we’re going to be okay. We need to find a way to quiet the hunger pains in our hearts.
In this uplifting book, Wall Street Journal bestselling author, licensed counselor and certified life coach Holley Gerth shares the strength, peace, and hope that come from knowing who God is, how much he cares for us and why we can trust he’ll get us through whatever we may face. Each of the 52 devotions based on the Psalms will help weary women remember that God is faithful, we’re all in this together and there’s a good plan for our lives.
My Thoughts:
Who hasn’t had a hard day? I know I have, it seems like I’ve been having a bad year so when I saw this book was available to review I knew I wanted to review it. The book is set up as 52 devotions for you to read. You can choose to read the book daily or weekly, you can even just pick it up with you need it. It really is up to you how you choose to use this amazing tool. I love how Holley really made the titles of each reading appealing and applicable to anyone’s daily lives. The devotion in the book that stood out to me was the one titled “God Wants to Update Your Wardrobe”. When I read it, honestly it seemed an odd title but once I started to read that devotion I immediately got what Holley wanted to share. It talks about a woman going to counseling and always wearing black and grey, what she wore was a reflection of how she felt on the inside. As someone who suffered with Postpartum Depression I know all to well about forgetting about my outward appearance when my heart was hurting, when I didn’t even feel like taking a breathe, when I was aching, when all I wanted to do was cry. This one really stuck with me. I’ve read it a few times and will continue to go to it on days when I need it. There’s so much more encouraging and uplifting words in this book, it would make a great gift for anyone who needs some encouragement.
