Get A Behind The Scenes Peek with the Backstage Tales Tour
Disneynature’s Monkey Kingdom is now playing in theaters everywhere, and if you see it today a donation will be make in your honor to Conservation International. Even if you can’t make it today I highly suggest you go see this touching film. You can also read my review of Monkey Kingdom and my interview with Disneynature Ambassador Dr Sanjayan. My recent Disney adventure was attending the Monkey Kingdom Event and we had the opportunity to do some amazing things. Included in our adventures was the Backstage Tales Tour.
Our day started bright and early that Wednesday morning. We arrived at the park before 7 AM. The sun hadn’t even rose properly yet. The first things we saw was the sand sculpture for Monkey Kingdom. It was an amazing piece. We were so early arriving there weren’t even any other guests at the park gate. We waited for our guides to arrive and when they did they had name tags for all of us. Our blogger group also included four other guests who had booked the tour for that morning.
The ladies got us ready by giving us listening devices so we could hear them during the entire tour. Whenever a new person came on the speak to us during the tour, the had an extra microphone for that person to tell us about the animals and what we were seeing. Walt Disney has always had a love for animals. Since he was a little boy he loved animals.
Most of this tour happens “off stage” so that means we couldn’t get a lot of photos. Like we saw a Black Rhino very up close and personal. It may or may not have peed on the wall behind us, it charged a few times but it also responded to all the commands the veterinary tech gave while we were in that area.
One of the first stops we made was to get photos of the Tree of Life before the crowds hit the park. What you don’t see behind me is the swarm of guests running to get to their favorite rides to be among the first to participate. Next we were on to Africa to the Pangani Trail and into the Aviary.
After arriving in the Aviary we had the opportunity to feed some of the birds. It is an open space so birds may leave you with a present when you are walking through. Luckily for us none of us get a surprise. A few of us jumped at the opportunity to feed the birds. When they asked they negated to mention that the meal worms were still live. It’s was an interesting experience to say the least. Shortly after our visit to the Aviary we were off stage and learned so much awesome information about the animals at Animal Kingdom.

- Explore backstage animal-housing areas.
- Visit the Animal Nutrition Center and see how over 4 tons of food are prepared and distributed each day.
- Tour the state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, where you may even witness animals being treated.

And remember: A portion of the tour proceeds is donated to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. If you’re planning on going on your own Backstage Tales Tour I would recommend closed toe shoes, check the weather to make sure you are dressed appropriately, bring a water bottle, and most importantly remember to arrive early. The Backstage Tales Tour cost $90 per person and it’s for ages 12 and older. The two hour tour does require a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes. You are required to have an admission ticket to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to participate in the Backstage Tales Tour.
