My Friend Jesus Review
Disclosure: I am a Tommy Nelson Mommy and I was provided the books below for review. Any and all opinions are my own and have not been influenced.
As a Christian mother I want my children to know and have a relationship with Jesus and God. I want to introduce them to his teachings and encourage them to live a life that is pleasing to him. I want them to know these things but I know they are just not ready for the bible or certain books because they simply don’t understand some of what is written. The book My Friend Jesus breaks it down for children to understand and it’s a perfect way to get my children started with getting closer to Jesus.
About the book:
Jesus can be your friend and Savior.
All Christian parents want their children to come to a relationship with Jesus. My Friend Jesus is written in fresh, clear language that children can understand and is appropriate for all denominations. The book not only tells the gospel story about Jesus, but also, in the most natural, gentle way, introduces children to a personal relationship with Him. A prayer at the end of the book guides children into that life-changing friendship with Jesus. This is the book author Kathryn Slattery wishes she had when her own children were young—which is the reason she wrote it!
Originally published as The Gospel for Kids, this book sold more than 100,000 copies. This new book will feature beautiful new art and lightly edited text.
Rave Reviews:
“It’s one of the best books of Jesus for young people I have encountered.” —Madeleine L’Engle, Newberry Medal–winning author of the bestselling children’s classic A Wrinkle in Time
“Kathryn Slattery has told the story so simply, briefly, cutting right to the essentials, managing to mix the profoundest truth with humor, talking to children without talking down to them. The Gospel for Kids goes on our grandparent bookshelf with great anticipation.” —Elizabeth and John Sherrill, coauthors of bestselling inspirational classics The Hiding Place and The Cross and the Switchblade
“A magnificent piece of writing, making the Gospel so plain and at the same time losing none of its beauty. The book is very attractive for adults also.” —Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, author of the international bestseller The Power of Positive Thinking and founder of Guideposts magazine
My thoughts:
This book made the perfect addition for my daughter’s Christmas Eve Box. I figured it would be a great read for her bedtime on Christmas Eve and to share this book with her and explain to her the reason we celebrate Christmas in the first place. You don’t have to wait for an occasion as Christmas to share this book with your children though. You can introduce it to them whenever you like. It would make a great Easter, First Communion, Baptism, or any religious celebration gift. The book is priced at $12.99 and you can purchase it online from publisher.
