Friday Five – Books For Kids
I’ve gotten a few books to review recently and I wanted to share some with you. Learning to read and continuing to practice is very important in our house. My husband and I have been reading to our kids since they were babies and it’s something we make sure they develop a love of books. Here’s a few summer releases that’s worth checking out.
Keeping Fit from A to Z / Mantente en forma de la A a la Z
We’ve had this book for a while now and I love it because it’s perfect for our toddler. He gets to cover his alphabet letters in a very unique and creative way. The book is bilingual so it has the words and phrases in both English and Spanish. Great for my six and seven-year old who are past learning about their alphabet. This book a wide variety of activities for to help kids and families get more activities. From indoor to outdoor, summer to winter, it covers lots of different activities. The book has over 150 color photographs of all the activities. This is a great addition to any kids bookshelf especially if you’re a family that loves or want to get active. The back of the book also has games you can play with your kids and a “Parents Did You Know” section with facts and statistics.

Healthy Foods from A to Z – 2015 Calendar/ Comida sana de la A a la Z – Calendario 2015
I grew up in Trinidad and since moving to the United States I’ve learned that foods can have different names in different countries. The Healthy Foods from A to Z book is a great resource for families and just a children’s book in my opinion. I love how they use the different food to make pictures of faces. I’ve learned about so many different foods from reading this book with my children. This is another book with great photography so not only are kids seeing the words of the foods they also see photos of them. *Parenting Hack* Encourage your kids to play with their foods, while trying new foods. Use the photos in this book for creative ideas to play with foods and encourage kids to try new foods.
Healthy Foods is a great book to add to your book shelf and one that will serve as a great resource for years to come.

Designed to inspire young children to eat healthy foods–as well as learn their ABCs–this book features 18 charming faces that depict a range of emotions children can understand. Each face engages a child into the world of healthy eating, is artfully composed of foods beginning with a specific letter of the alphabet, and is surrounded on both sides with small food icons that make up the face. These icons are identified by vocabulary in both languages and include some of the most nutritious fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy, and soy products available today.
A Simple Idea to Empower Kids
Bulling has become so common place that today it’s a conversation you must have with your children at some point. Whether it’s about talking to them about how to deal with someone bulling them, or someone bulling someone else or even them being a bully; the conversation is a must have. Before I had children I always told myself I would let my future daughter know that she is beautiful, she’s a princess and that she’s smart and she should be a leader. I would let my future son know that he was handsome, a prince, smart and he should be a leader. This book helps with planting that seed of greatness. I highly recommend this book for all parents, grand parents and care givers.

Princess Cupcake Jones Won’t Go To School
Princess Cupcake Jones Won’t Go To School is the cutest book ever. I loved the illustrations in the book. My seven-year old daughter could read the book on her own and she loved reading it to her three-year old cousin. It’s a great book for a little girl getting ready to start her first day of school. Whether she’s nervous about starting a new school or meeting a new teacher this book is a great read and reminder that you won’t know if you like something until you actually try it. My daughter is a huge fan of Princess Cupcake Jones and she can’t wait to find out what she does next.

The first day of school is daunting for many children, especially if they haven’t been in daycare or some other group setting. Will the other children like me? What if I don’t know what to do or where to go? These and other worries rattle around in their little heads.
In the new children’s book, Princess Cupcake Jones Won’t Go To School by Ylleya Fields, Princess Cupcake initially refuses to go to school. When this strong-will young princess finally goes to school and meets her nice teacher and makes friends with another little girl (also wearing a tutu), school doesn’t seem so bad.
