Four Ways to Use Wall Decals in Nurseries

Putting together a nursery can be both exciting and stressful for parents-to-be. Painting is a time-consuming, physically taxing, and often a costly activity. Many parents shy away from painting their children’s walls because they know they’ll have to repeat the process in just a few years.

That’s where wall decals come in.

Wall decals are an easy, elegant way to decorate a nursery. They are low-cost, easily applied and removed, and create a unique and personal flair in any room. At a loss for what sort of decals to apply? Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Patterns

Remember the Pinterest trend from a few years ago of painting stripes on an accent wall? While the results looked great when done properly, this practice added extra work to an already involved process. Patterned accent walls are unique, eye-catching, and great for your baby’s visual development.

One of the biggest challenges when painting patterns is ensuring even distribution. However, you can skip the tedious measuring process by applying decals rather than paint. Polka dots have been making a huge comeback lately, and using dot decals from Nordlife can save you time and stressful mistakes.

Quotes

Do you have a quote that resonates with you? Perhaps it is a line from your favorite children’s book, that you hope to share with your child. Maybe lyrics from your and your partner’s favorite song. It could even be an inspirational piece of wisdom that has helped you get through the hard times to this exciting point in your life.

Popular quote decals can be found in various stores, in different color and font options to suit your decor needs. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can always have your wall decal custom made to your liking. If you like the concept of lettering, but don’t feel attached to any quotes, add your child’s initials and birthday for a truly personal touch!

Thematic Images

It’s not uncommon to have a nursery theme in mind even before you get pregnant. Sure, it’s easy to envision an intricate mural but it’s quite another thing to execute that idea. Rather than dedicating the time and money to painting a mural suiting this theme, you can use individual image decals to get the job done.

If your nursery is nature themed, you may choose to include decals of forest animals. If your theme of choice is the sky, decals of clouds and balloons can make your vision a reality. If your theme is based on the book Where the Wild Things Are, you could have decals of the monsters dancing around the walls. You might even choose to double your decals and include a quote from the book as well!

Removable Wallpaper and Murals

Renters rejoice! Large-scale decals in the form of removable wallpaper and murals are an up and coming trend in home decor. Add a faux brick or beachwood wall for a room your baby can grow into. Bring the outdoors in with a photo mural of the forest, or the beach. Create a travel theme with a large-scale map of the world.

Unlike they’re messy predecessors, today’s removable wallpaper and murals are usually made of easy-stick vinyl for simple application, removal, and maintenance. The options come in various designs, colors, and textures for endless decor options. If you are a fan of the night sky, you can even purchase glow-in-the-dark murals for your baby’s room (or maybe your own).

Tying it Together

There are various different decor elements you can use to tie together your nursery. Curtains, blankets, rugs, throw pillows, and framed photos make it possible to create endless combinations. Adding in wall decals create a more immersive, memorable environment that your baby– and you– are sure to fall in love with.
