Five Reasons The Good Dinosaur is a Family Movie Night Top Pick

The Good Dinosaur was released on February 23rd, on Disney Digital, Disney Movies Anywhere and Blu-Ray, my family and I were lucky to get a copy for review from the folks at Disney Home Entertainment and once it arrived the kids couldn’t wait to jump in and watch the movie.  My kids loved the movie so much they watched it twice in a row.  It became an instant classic in our house and I’m sure it would be for your family as well.  If you’ve been on the fence about the movie here’s five reasons The Good Dinosaur is a family movie night top pick.

1. It’s a Heartwarming Story

Within the first ten minutes, it may be less of the movie I was crying, and I don’t mean like a few drops of tears I mean real crying. Like many other Disney movies the basis of the movie is built in tragedy.  We are introduced to Arlo and his family at the start of the film and soon learn that Arlo is very scared of just about everything and it was getting in the way of him pulling his weight on the family’s farm.  Frustrated Arlo’s dad set out to encourage him to be brave and when a deadly storm hit, Arlo and the rest of his family are left wondering what to do next.  There were so many parts of the story that you can relate to in your own lives.  My husband and I are always encouraging out oldest son to be brave and strong.

2. Characters You’ll Love

Spot and Arlo are the main characters in the movie, and the way Disney/Pixar showcases their growing relationship is amazing to watch and experience.  It’s like watching the relationship between a person and their pet, except with their roles reversed.  It was fun to see Spot almost like Arlo’s companion like a pet, who helped him find his way home after he got lost.  He kept him safe and never backed off even when Arlo didn’t want him to keep coming around him.

3. Learn about Dinosaurs & Pixar

While a lot of what the Dinosaurs do in the movie isn’t true to life, the bonus scenes on this disc has a great piece of information about Dinosaurs in general.  It’s educational, fun, and most importantly it’s short.  My kids watch that one bonus piece at least five times in a row.  Another bonus scene takes you behind the scenes at the Pixar RECYCLOSAURUS contest, made with items found only on the studio’s free table.  Be sure to check out those creative minds responsible for all you favorite movies.

4. Sanjay’s Super Team Short

I love Disney Shorts and this one does not disappoint. It’s the story of how one father tries to share with his son his religious beliefs. He think’s his son is distracted by cartoons and comics but the short takes you on a colorful adventure and Sanjay soon finds the perfect way for him to bond with his father and learn about his heritage as well.  It’s another great addition to the shorts family and another bonus scene you have to check out.

5. The Whole Family can Enjoy It
