My Favorite Aladdin Memory #AladdinBloggers

October 13, 2015 By Nickida

My Favorite Aladdin Memory

Last month I had the opportunity to travel to Santa Ana and Burbank to learn about Aladdin.  I had a drawing lesson with head Genie animator Eric Goldberg and he shared so much with us about the movie.  Aladdin was released from the Disney vault and it’s available now on Blu-ray combo pack, Disney DVD, Digital HD and DMA.

Aladdin

As a little girl growing up in Trinidad I remember watching all the Disney Princess movies.  I loved them all.  Belle always has and will always have a very special place in my heart.  She’s my favorite of all time but when Aladdin was released I couldn’t wait to see this movie.  It was especially exciting for me because Jasmine was a princess of color.  I was ten at the time of the movie’s release and seeing a brown princess made me so happy.  That year I dreamed of being a princess just like Jasmine and riding a magic carpet and living in a castle.  The soundtrack became a staple in our home since my father really liked the song A Whole New World.

I remember singing that song over and over for hours and hours in the house.  Jasmine was inspirational for me and so many of my friends.  We all wanted to be just like her.  She was brave, bold and so different.  Just like other Disney princesses, she was making an impression on girls all around the world.  Introducing this movie to my own kids brought back so many great memories of when I would watch the movie.  I’m so glad we have it in our collection now.  I’ve been singing all the songs again with the kids and remembering all the scenes of the movie and discovering all kinds of neat facts.  Do you have a memory tied to Aladdin?  Here’s a clip of Brad Kane recalling his memories of recording the songs from Aladdin.
