As a mother of three you could imagine that I have used a home pregnancy test before. Actually three times before. I think my most memorable test was when I thought I was pregnant with my first. I was so nervous. I remember being at the drug store and looking at all the different. I choose the E.P.T and started to head to the check out counter. Before I knew it I was putting it back on the shelf and walking away. I must have pick it up and then put it back again at least ten times. I wanted to know but I was scared that my boyfriend (now my husband) may not be ready for a family. After twenty minutes in the store I finally paid for my E.P.T test and left the store.
Since my boyfriend was out of town when I brought it I waited for him to come home before I took the test. I will always remember it because it was Halloween and I woke up super early to take the test. If it was negative he would never know I took it and if it was positive I would have some times alone to think about how to tell him. I took the test and waited the three minutes and it was indeed positive. All I could do was cry. I didn’t think of a way to tell him or anything I just cried and he woke up and saw me crying. He asked me what was wrong but I couldn’t even talk, I just handed him the test and he was so excited and happy. He hugged me and told me that he loved me and he was ready to start a family and he was thankful for this gift.
E.P.T made it possible for women to experience this life moment in the privacy for their own homes. It also made it possible for women to find out they were pregnant sooner so they could take the necessary health steps earlier, like quitting smoking, drinking and starting on prenatal vitamins. The home pregnancy tests paved the way for the creation of other home tests including those for blood sugar.
” It’s amazing to think how different life was for women before the home pregnancy test was introduced,” said Jennifer Moyer, vice president of marketing for INSIGHT Pharmaceuticals, LLC, the parent company of e.p.t®. “Prior to 1977, women had to overcome numerous hurdles to learn if they were pregnant, and a litany of people knew the outcome of their test before they did. The home pregnancy test didn’t just help women to learn earlier if they are pregnant – it empowered them to own that moment of revelation and to share it, or to discover it alone, at their discretion.”
“e.p.t® is proud to have founded this historic breakthrough in women’s lives,” Moyer added. “Many women who were born 35 years ago are now mothers themselves, so this is an appropriate moment to pause and celebrate the ease, convenience and privacy the home pregnancy test has afforded women over the last three-and-a-half decades.”
