School is starting in a little over a week and we’re in full back to school mode. We’re getting school supplies, adjusting schedules and making all the plans we need to make for school. Now that school is back in session I’ve been working on stocking up on the essentials I need for school lunches. It never fails that no matter how much planning I do I always end up running out of something.
We were shopping at Walmart for some of our lunch box essentials for school. The kids like taking Lunchables the first week of school. Since we start on a Wednesday this year I figured it was much easier to grab a few of those for the first couple of days. They have so many different options that I know all the kids are sure to find what they need. We also always stuck up on juice pouches and fruit snacks. Did you know that right now Kraft has over 20 printable coupons to help you save not only on back to school lunches and snacks, but lots more as well. The page is #PackedWithSavings just click on the banner below for coupons.
They offer a wide variety of coupons for everyone in the family. From coffee to juice pouches, there’s something to help you save while shopping for your favorite products from Kraft. While shopping I was thinking of dinner and what I wanted to make for the family and I remembered that I wanted to make some Mac and Cheese again since the kids always loves having it for dinner. I grabbed some Kraft Natural Shredded Cheese, Velveeta Shells and Cheese and Philadelphia Cream Cheese along with our juices and some other items and headed home. When I got home I wondered about what I could do to make it extra special and then it hit me. Crab! Yes we Marylanders love our crab.
The key to any good mac and cheese is a good cheese sauce. I make sure that I add all my seasoning at the base so my finished dish is perfect. If you’ve never made cheese sauce from scratch before don’t be discouraged it’s not hard at all and I also have a semi-homemade method that would great as well. The secret to a good cheese sauce is using the right amount of butter, flour, milk and constant stirring. For this recipe however I am using my semi-homemade method which is even easier. I started with butter and cream cheese. Make sure the cream cheese it at room temperature.
My daughter loves being a helper. She couldn’t wait to put the cheeses into the sauce and help me stir. I love using the Kraft Natural Shredded Italian Cheese because I get so much variety and it makes for a very cheesy dish.
When mixing in your crab meat be sure to be as gentle as possible. You don’t want to break up the crab meat too much. This the last step before mixing in the macaroni.
I like baking my mac and cheese. Instead of using cheese on top of this dish I used Italian bread crumbs. It’s really up to you how you choose to top your mac and cheese. Now just bake and enjoy.
