The Aviators DVD Review
When I was a child growing up in Trinidad, our neighbor had a pidgin coup. He was training them to carry messages to one of his friend sin the neighborhood and return to his house. It always looked like he worked hard at it and according to his mother and others in our small village he was great at training them. Carrier Pigeons used to be very important and the animated feature The Aviators from Cinedigm tells the story of just how important they were during the World War I era. My family and I received DVD copy of the Aviators to review and share our thoughts, any opinions expressed are my own.
About The Aviators:
Based on a true story set during World War I, The Aviators follows the adventures of a courageous, albeit clumsy, group of pigeons and their sidekick, a resourceful engineer mouse (Foxworthy). When their small farm is turned into a military training post and communications centre for the Allies, the group of unlikely heroes enlists as carrier pigeons and bravely complete airborne missions to assist the soldiers on the battlefield. When given their biggest assignment yet, the team bands together to save the day and soar into history!
An animated story of heroism, bravery and friendship, Brad Garrett (Finding Nemo, Ratatouille) and Jeff Foxworthy (Smurfs, Fox & The Hound) headline the family-friendly, high-flying tale, The Aviators, arriving on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD February 3 from VIVA Pictures and Cinedigm (NASDAQ: CIDM). Directed by famed animator Miquel Pujol, the unforgettable adventure features the original song “We’re Fighting For Survival,” performed by Foxworthy.
My Thoughts:
Although this is an animated feature it’s still based on a true story and it was great to see how pigeons were used to help the military back then. When you think of pigeons now the last thing you think about is how they were used. Anytime we visit New York we usually see a few of them in allies, but my kids have never really learned anything about these birds. I like that the film shared a very important story but in a way that was fun ad family friendly. All my kids enjoyed the film. They were constantly laughing about all the antics of the pigeons and they learned about how smart these birds can really be. This animated movie is a great title to add to your collection to enjoy with your family. We give it four stars.
