It’s here! It’s finally here! We’re heading into Summer, and the world is opening back up. Such an exciting time and also a little nerve-wracking. Last summer, most of us were hunkered down at home in loungewear, definitely not enjoying ourselves on the beach.
Do we even remember what to pack to bring on such excursions? It’s always a good idea to arm yourself with a checklist when planning for Summer Getaways, so here’s a quick guide to get you to a suitable place when it comes to packing.
Sweet Suits
Nothing says Summer like a bathing suit. Okay, maybe many things scream summer, but having the right bathing suit that you feel confident and comfortable with is vital, especially as a mother. We will be running around after kids half the time but want to feel gorgeous in those rare moments where we actually get to relax and sunbathe for a minute. Something that makes things harder this year is you can’t try on everywhere you go clothing shopping.
So, keep your body in mind when searching for the perfect suit. Everybody is beautiful, so you’re not limited to one piece or bikini no matter your shape. However, certain things like an underwire bikini top will give your girls the boost they need to be universally flattering. Go with any color or pattern that makes you happy; you’re going to be pool or oceanside after all!
SPF Savvy
Please, if you do one thing this summer, don’t skimp on the SPF. The sun’s powerful rays can damage us all, not only aging us prematurely but also potential cancer-causing. While soaking in vitamin D has known and essential benefits, it is equally important to make sure we are taking care of our skin in the process.
Make sure you choose an SPF of at least thirty or higher and reapplying appropriately and as needed. That is, every two to three hours when you’re out in peak sun hours (think afternoon) and even more often if you’re physically active and sweating under the sun.
Family Fuel
It almost goes without saying, but you want to keep yourself and your family as healthy and nourished as possible on vacation too! So, pack extra snacks for the road – fruit, nuts, and cut veggies are best. Make sure you’re also filling that cooler with healthy plain water and avoid sugary and caffeinated drinks.
It’s a good idea to pack extras of both so you don’t run out and have to eat fast food or something you wouldn’t normally eat just because you’re not at home.
Personal Protection
After this year, that phrase conjures masks, goggles, and gloves. Well, one of those is on the list – you never want to leave home without your mask, vaccinated or not, until the CDC advises us otherwise. But we’re talking about hats and sunglasses here.
Hats protect the most delicate skin on your body – your face. And, sunglasses protect your eyes. Make sure you all stay comfortable with these packed for whatever the day brings.
Extra, Extra!
If you’re going on a trip that lasts longer than a day, you want to make sure you’re not left without something. It’s always prudent to create a list of the clothes you and your travel companions will need and then add to that. Three-day trip? Bring four shirts. If you’re traveling with babies or toddlers, you already know the drill, but they need even more.
Accidents happen, and with little ones, the accident almost always impacts what they’re wearing. It’s also always a good idea to pack a nice outfit for everyone going if you decide to catch a show or a fancy dinner. It’s never wrong to be overdressed, but certainly to be underdressed.
First Aid Kit
Most of us already have a first aid kit in our homes and cars, but it’s essential not to have to rely on someone else should something go wrong when traveling. It’s always a good idea to have a small first aid kit at the ready in your handbag. Packing a first aid kit ensures that if something happens to you or someone in your group, you’ll be able to handle things most quickly and safely possible.
