I recently reviewed a book named She Speaks – Wisdom from the Women of the Bible to the Modern Black Woman. You can read the entire review here. I’ve really enjoyed reading the book and learning more about women of the bible and the roles that they played and how God worked in their lives. Today I wanted to share about Sarah (Sarai). You may already know about her and the story of her giving birth to a boy in her old age. I loved the book because it broke down the scriptures and make it so simple to understand what Sarah had done.
This really taught me a lesson in trusting in God and having faith. See when Sarah overhead God telling her husband she would bare him a son, she laughed. She didn’t have faith or believe what God was saying so she took matters into her own hands and offered her handmaiden to her husband. When her handmaiden Hagar gave birth to her son Sarah realized her mistake but now it was too late. She did give birth to her own son Issac in her old age but her lack of faith created lots of problems between her, Hagar and both of their sons.
This is how the book states to apply Sarah:
Sometimes God whispers in our ears and mobilizes us to take action on his behalf to carry out his will. But Sarah had no such directive from God in choosing to five Hagar to Abraham. God doesn’t need our help to move things along or to make things happen. Unless we hear from him, we should remove our hands from manipulating the lives of others; even if we’re going what we think is best for them. In fact, we could be interfering with God’s plans for that person’s life and our own.
