My Wrinkle In Time Blue Carpet Experience
I can’t believe that I was able to attend two world premieres this year, and it’s only March. First I dipped my feet in Wakanda followed by my Wrinkle In Time trip. It was such a fun carpet and it was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in the past. This carpet was so close to the Oscars that we had a whole new route for walking to the El Capitan Theatre.
It was such a great night. We started the night out worried about rain, but we were able to hang out on the red carpet and outside the theatre, while waiting to get in to screen the movie. While waiting outside I saw Tracey Ellis Ross and Issa Rae just hanging out in front trying to use their phones before it got locked away inside the theatre. Once we got inside both ladies walked right up near my group and we chatted with them for a few minutes. We even spent a few minutes laughing with Tracey Ellis Ross and Yvette Brown. Such beautiful ladies and it warmed my heart to see them interact.
What I Wore
I ended up in a Navy Blue Ralph Lauren Dress. It has a long slit up the left side. I ended up wearing rose gold pumps and no jewelry. I wish I had gone the way of flats because my feet were worn out and we ended up sitting in the balcony at the very top and the stairs were so small. I just knew I would face plant in front of all the celebrities.
What I Loved
Of course, I just loved the movie. It was such a great movie for kids and kids at heart. Ava DuVernay gave a very moving speech before bringing out the cast. I just loved how positive she was about the whole experience and taking the time to highlight her niece. I loved seeing Ryan Coogler and his wife Zinzi showing up to support Ava. The friendships in black Hollywood was on display and it was beautiful to witness. I saw most of the cast of Queen Sugar in the audience during the screening. I was hoping I’d see them later to capture photos with but I didn’t see anyone at the after party.
I was Excited To Meet
Winston Duke and Ryan Coogler. Trust me I saw tons of amazing people at the after party. There were tons of photo opportunities but I wanted to get these two people. We never had the opportunity to interview Ryan during the Black Panther event so I wanted to let him know how much I loved the film. He was so down to earth, and his wife was queening the entire night. Every person Ryan spoke with he introduced his wife to them. She smiled and shook every hand. You could look into her eyes and see how proud she was of her husband and all the praise he was getting.
A Touching Story
During the after party, a few of the ladies in the group sat at the table in the corner of the room where all the celebrities were eating. It was one of the few tables not reserved. In that corner, we saw so many celebrities and fans interact with each other. While sitting there I noticed something amazing I had to share. Winston Duke stood waiting to talk to Ryan Coogler and his wife. While he waited to talk to the Ryan, a little girl walks over in our direction and stands next to our table waiting for Winston to finish because she wanted a photo with M’Baku (Duke). He made eye contact with the young girl and mouthed to her he would take the photo with her. Soon the girl was joined by her two brothers. The three stood in line waiting, a few minutes passed and their mom walked over and told them to just forget it.
About ten minutes later the girl who was so excited at first walked off. You could tell she was a bit disappointed. Winston turned and assured her brothers he would still take the photo with them. A few minutes later the youngest of the boys walked way following their mom out of the room. What happened next shocked me. Winston who was still waiting for Ryan quickly told he’d see him later, snapped a photo and walked over the last boy waiting. He took him around the party to find their mom so she could take the photo with him and all three kids. When most people would have just ignored them, or just left it when they started to walk away, he made sure he kept his word. I’m sure those kids night was made when he walked up with their brother to take the photo with them.
About A Wrinkle In Time:
From visionary director Ava DuVernay comes Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and, ultimately, the triumph of love. Through one girl’s transformative journey led by three celestial guides, we discover that strength comes from embracing one’s individuality and that the best way to triumph over fear is to travel by one’s own light.
Meg Murry is a typical middle school student struggling with issues of self-worth who just wants to fit in. The daughter of two world-renowned physicists, she is intelligent and uniquely gifted, as is Meg’s younger brother, Charles Wallace, but she has yet to realize it for herself. Complicating matters is the mysterious disappearance of Mr. Murry, which has left Meg devastated and her mother broken-hearted. Charles Wallace introduces Meg and her fellow classmate Calvin to three celestial beings (Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who) who have journeyed to Earth to help search for their father, and together they embark on their formidable quest. Traveling via a wrinkling of time and space known as tessering, they are transported to worlds beyond their imagination where they must confront a powerful evil force. To make it back home to Earth, Meg must face the darkness within herself in order to harness the strength necessary to defeat the darkness rapidly enveloping the Universe.
