Over the last few weeks, I’ve seen quite a few of my friends post their kids back to school photos on Facebook. We still have two weeks left in Maryland and I’m in back to school mode. I have already started my shopping for the kids’ school supplies, their clothes for the new school year, and lunch. It may seem odd that I’m already getting ready for lunch for back to school but it was one of my biggest challenges last year. My tips for making lunch packing easier with my DIY Lunch Packing Station.
Ask any parent about their most difficult task during the school year and their answer will be one of three things. Either it’s getting the kids up for school each morning, breakfast, or lunch. Each school year I’m forced to tackle these problems and find the best solution for our family. With three kids attending two different schools and two different start times, it’s a juggling act. My main goal this year is to making packing lunch much easier. I wanted to find a way to get my kids involved in the process while allowing them to make better snack choices.
Shopping for Lunch Essentials at Safeway
I started my shopping at Safeway since they had advertised quite a few back to school sales. This year I’m planning on cutting down the kids’ sugar intake and removing sugary drinks from their lunch boxes. POWERADE was a natural choice for the older kids. It’s thirst quenching and refreshing, it was a natural choice.
My kids always ask for bottles of water to take to school every day. DASANI Lunch Box Pack features small bottles of crisp water that is perfect for their lunch boxes. They are just the right size and will be just for they need for gym days.
I finished off by adding Honest Kids Juice Pouches to the mix and Lance Cracker Varieties. I choose the Honest Kids Juice for my first grader because he still prefers juice but he needed less sugar. Lance Crackers has several options including crackers free of peanut-butter if your school is peanut free.

DIY Lunch Packing Station
I started my station with a plastic storage tub. This one has five compartments storing lunch items. There are three larger compartments perfect for the drinks and juice, and two smaller one for snacks. You can choose any vessel to store your lunch items. Find a spot in your kitchen that’s easily accessible to your children.
Load up the drawers with drink and snack options like POWERADE, DASANI water, Honest Kids Juice Pouches, and Lance Crackers.
Give your child the option to pick their own drink and snack options for the lunch boxes while you’re making their main lunch. Saving you time and allowing them to assist making process.
Optional: Head to Pinterest and find a nice and easy template for lunch station labels. Add them to your storage tub or station to make it easier for your child to find the snacks and drinks they want in an instant.
Remember to look in your local Safeway stores for the $1.50 Lance Cracker coupon while you’re shopping for your kids’ school lunches. With kids heading back to school what your biggest challenge during the school year? How do you plan to overcome that challenge?
