Fellowes Laminator Review
Owning a laminator has some serious perks. I’ve always wanted one in regards to scrapbooking and things like that but with my so being non-verbal and our non-traditional approach to teaching him I have more use for a laminator than I thought. I received a Fellowes Laminator as a part of the Shoplet Bloggers Program for review purposes. Any opinions expressed are my own.
I’ve been looking for ways to help my son with his communication with our family and others. Since he’s four and non-verbal it’s important to me that he knows some basic communication skills. Our first steps was making a communication board with basic pictures so he could ask for help, say thanks and a few other short sentences. We’ve used it to makes the ASL Alphabet posters for all the rooms so the kids know some of them when they see JB using them. I’ve also helped with an at home communication book to keep him on track this summer. It was super easy to put together with the Fellowes Saturn Laminator.
This laminator is very compact and easy to store. When I am using it I use the dining room table so I have all the space I need to use the machine. When using the laminator needs room to insert the sheets and space for them to come out on the other side. You want to make sure it’s a clean dry surface and watch out because the machine does get hot. I love that this machine features an auto shut-off feature to prevent overheating of the machine. I wouldn’t recommend using on a surface that could melt or one that could suffer heat damage. Getting started with the laminator out of the box is so fast. It’s ready for use in a minute due to the InstaHeat Technology. Just turn on the machine, choose the setting from 3mil, 4mil, 5mil or cold and you’ll hear a beep when the machine is ready for use.
The laminator comes with a starter kit with sheets of 3mil pockets to get you started with your laminating projects. It is recommended that you use Fellowes laminating pouches with this machine and you can purchase them along with other office supplies from Shoplet. I found this laminator very easy to use. It didn’t take me long to read the directions and start working on the project.
The pouch is the perfect size for letter size paper, you know standard computer paper. To find the opening of the pouch gently rub the pages together and it comes apart so you can separate them for use. Insert your sheet in the middle and cover with top flip. When putting the pouch in the laminator make sure the sealed end of the pouch goes in first. It’s easy to find the sealed end on the pouch.
It took less than two minutes for my sheet of paper to come out on the other side fully laminated and ready for use. It was a little warm but not super hot. I did find though that the longer I left my machine on the hotter it got. It did shut off after 30 minutes of inactivity, a safety feature which is great for me. I wouldn’t recommend children using this machine without adult supervision due to the temperatures.
You can create great projects with the Fellowes Laminator like our son’s communication book or anything you choose. It would be great for parents how are homeschooling or supplementing. We are going to use it for summer reading and writing with our kids as well. The Fellowes Saturn Laminator is available for purchase on Shoplet for $189.93. In addition to purchasing your office stationery, Shoplet also has a promotional products department and they also have medical supplies for purchase. Be sure to check them out.
