5 Essential Items to Pack in Your Child’s Dance Bag

5 Essential Items to Pack in Your Child’s Dance Bag

If your child is a dancer, you know how hectic schedules can be. You also know how much gear they need for a single dance class.

However, if you are new to the world of dance, and your child is just starting their journey, you may wonder what they need for this activity and what you need to include in their dance bag for each class.

If you are in this situation, you are in luck. Here you can learn about the essential items each dancer needs in their bag at all times.

1. Dance Shoes

While this may seem like a given, the fact is, there are several types of dance shoes that are needed. In addition to traditional ballet slippers, your child may also need specialty shoes if they are taking a tap dancing class, hip-hop dancing or doing pointe work.

In most cases, you will know ahead of time if your child needs any type of specialty shoes, but it’s always good to be prepared.

2. Warm-Ups, Leotard and Extra Tights

In case of excessive sweating, stains or runs, having a backup pair of tights and even an extra leotard can be extremely beneficial. If you need to purchase your child a leotard but aren’t sure what to buy, check out the information here https://www.justforkix.com/leotards.

It’s also a good idea to pack your child some warm-up clothes. These can be left over the leotard and tights until the dance class begins.

3. Hair Essentials

Does your child have long hair? Is it possible that it will get in the way at some point? If so, then packing plenty of elastic ties, pins and barrettes to tie back the hair is important. Make sure to stow away a hairbrush, comb and hairspray, too.

As a dancer, your child has to be prepared so making sure they have the necessities to keep their hair out of the way is a good idea.

4. A Towel

While it may not sound glamorous, even when it is cold outside, dancers sweat. Even the smallest dancers sweat. Dancing is hard work; a little sweat is going to happen.

Make sure your child is prepared by packing a towel in your child’s dance bag. You may also want to pack a few extra towels if it’s a significantly long practice or routine.

5. Water or Sports Drink

It’s important to remain hydrated when doing any type of physical activity – including dancing. As a result, it’s a good idea to pack some water or a sports drink in your child’s bag. This will give them a source of refreshment and ensure they don’t get dehydrated while practicing their dance skills.

Try to find or choose a bottle that can be refilled easily from a water fountain or a sink. Don’t ever pack a glass bottle, as this could break and leave small shards of glass everywhere, including in your shoes, leotards and tights.

5. A Healthy Snack

There’s a good chance your child’s dance class is going to be after school. They may not have the opportunity to go home or grab something to eat somewhere else. As a result, it’s up to you to ensure they have a healthy snack to take along and eat before or after class. The most highly recommended snack is fruit and nuts.

Do you have a little dancer? If so, make sure to pack their bags with all the necessities found here. Regardless of how old a dancer is, being prepared will ensure a successful class and a positive experience.
