On The Farm: Cocka Doodle Doo The Right Thing

April 6, 2013 By Nickida

One The Farm: Cocka Doodle Doo The Right Thing

DVD Review

farm

As a Tommy Nelson Mommy this month we are reviewing books and movies centered around the theme of honesty and building character.  April 30th is National Honesty Day and goal is to show our kids the importance of being honest and making great decisions.  This DVD is from the On The Farm With Farmer Bob series, so if you are already familiar with the series you may already know some of the characters.  This DVD features the voices of Amy Grant and Vince Hill.

About the DVD:

Treat everyone with R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

All the animals at the farm are brimming with hilarious anticipation when they hear that Farmer Bob has invited a special guest for dinner. But not everything goes as planned when Hercules doesn’t want to help and Sam treats the special guest like a nobody!

At the end of the day, both Sam and Hercules learn a valuable lesson about treating others—and their belongings—with respect.

Bonus educational features include a music video and cartoon based on the letter C, a read-along digital storybook that lets kids decide when to “turn the page,” and an option to view the entire Cocka Doodle Doo the Right Thing DVD with pop-up Cs every time a word that begins with C is used! A literacy message to parents is also included.

More bonus features include bloopers, character commentary, and a behind-the-scenes look at how Farmer Bob’s farm was created! Children will love the tractor-loads of fun and humor that go along with this biblically-based and educational story.

My thoughts:

I really love this movie.  My husband and I both sat and watched it with the kids and it held our attention (I will admit we were teaching our kids lessons as the movie progressed), but we watched the whole thing and had fun with the bonus features as well.  The movie is about a visitor at the farm and Hercules doesn’t want to help out, he judges the visitor on his appearance and learns in the end that you can not judge a book by it’s cover.  Their visitor ended up being the owner of a company and not just a delivery man like Hercules originally thought.  Also in this movie is the a lesson on honesty.  The visitor loses some money on the farm and one of the animals finds it and spends it.  He later confesses that he took the money because he saw no one around but it helped us explain to our kids that “Finders=Keepers” does not apply and you should do the right thing and try to find the owner of property you may find.

The bonus features was also fun. It featured the letter “C” and the kids took turns guessing the words that was coming up next.  One game had words all missing the letter C and the kids had to include C to complete the word.  Another game featured partial sounds and a picture so the kids would add the missing letters to make the words.  The DVD is great for children 7 and under.  Our kids enjoyed the story and they asked lots of questions after it was over.  It was fun and educational at the same time.  You can pick up a copy of the movie on the Tommy Nelson website.  It’s priced for $7.99.  At this price its great to pick up for a quick gift for any occasion.
