Parents Just Don’t Understand Premiering Soon On Hub Network

Parents Just Don’t Understand Premiering Soon On Hub Network

As a Hub Club Blogger, I was given the opportunity to preview the Hub Network’s new original series “Parent”s Just Don’t Understand.” The series features musical superstar and TV personality, Joey Fatone (‘N Sync, “Rewrapped”). The show plays off the premise of “Freaky Friday”, giving kids and their parents the opportunity to find out what it feels like to walk in each other’s shoes. Parent’s Just Don’t Understand premieres on Saturday, August 23rd at 7 P.M on the Hub Network.

My family and I previewed two episodes from the show. The first episode titled “The Touchdown Maker and Cupcake Baker” in this episode a mom of five switches with her thirteen year old son. The son takes on the mom’s responsibilities at her job working for the railroad and taking care of his siblings. The mom takes on her son’s school project, his chores and football practice.

When I first started watching the show, I immediately thought that the kid was just being lazy and didn’t want to do anything. As a mom I never thought that I would be out of touch with what it was like being a child. I know I often tell my own kids “I remember when I was a child, I had……” insert whatever chore or laundry list of things I recall doing. I bet if you asked my mom she would say otherwise. Needless to say that by the end of the episode I was hooked. I couldn’t believe that I actually agreed with some of the things the son said about his life.

The second episode was about a daughter with lots of extracurricular activities and a mother who’s in school and drives her kids to their extracurricular activities. I actually liked this episode a lot. I totally got that the mom wanted to provide her kids with things she never had. I feel the same way but after she spent her day in her daughter’s shoes she realized that maybe the fun stuff isn’t as fun as she thinks it is, especially when she meets the tutor from hell (OK maybe I am exaggerating but that tutor scared me).

Parent’s Just Don’t Understand is a great show for the entire family. I can’t wait to check out the rest of the season. The series will also showcase other parent-child swaps including a teenage ballerina and her fiesty single-mom, a roller derby devotee and her princess-loving mom, plus a single-dad who takes on his son’s rigorous athletic schedule. Remember the show airs on Saturdays at 7 PM on the Hub Network.
