Big Hero 6 Arrives on Blu Ray & DVD

My kids have been watching the same DVD for the past week and a half.  We received a copy of Big Hero 6 early for review from Disney Home Entertainment and the kids have been enjoying it since it arrived.  It was a perfect road trip movie when we traveled to Lancaster for my birthday and we’ve been watching it at home since we got back.  Last November I had the opportunity to travel to L.A. to attend the red carpet premiere of Big Hero 6.  This weekend my kids asked to watch the Oscars because they saw that the movie was nominated and when they won the Academy Award they cheered so loudly.  The award comes right on the heels of the in home release of Big Hero 6 on February 24th.  Now fans can own the movie and enjoy it over and over again.

Big Hero 6

Also included is the Academy Award Winner for Best Animated Short – Feast, which opened in front of Big Hero 6 when it was playing in theaters.  Both titles are perfect for a family movie night and trust me your family will enjoy this feature, over and over again.  It’s filled with so much emotions.  It will laughing, crying, cheering and laughing again all in the same scene.  It’s a very positive movie to show kids that Math and Science rocks, that its okay to be smart and different and that family can come from unexpected places.  There’s so many reasons why I love this movie and why I think you’ll love it as well.  Read my Big Hero 6 review to see why I say it’s a must see and now a must own.

McFarland, USA Trailer

McFarland, USA Trailer

While in LA for my Big Hero 6 Press Trip we had the opportunity to see an early preview of McFarland, USA.  At the time of the screening we were the first members of the press to see the movie, the trailer hadn’t even premiered yet.  We were extremely lucky to see the movie so early and I can’t wait to share details with your closer to the release date.  It’s a very heart warming family movie and if you have kids that are athletes, especially runners, you’ll want to mark your calender for February 20th, 2015 to see the movie when it’s released.

mcfarland

Inspired by the 1987 true story, “McFarland, USA” follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Coach White and the McFarland students have a lot to learn about each other but when White starts to realize the boys’ exceptional running ability, things begin to change. Soon something beyond their physical gifts becomes apparent—the power of family relationships, their unwavering commitment to one another and their incredible work ethic. With grit and determination, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Along the way, Coach White realizes that his family finally found a place to call home and both he and his team achieve their own kind of American dream.

My recent blogger trip with Disney for Big Hero 6 included a huge welcome bag.  We actually got two welcome bags.  Going through the products I could tell that my family would all want the items from the bag.  In addition to attending an all expenses paid press trip with Disney, I was also provided samples of some of the products listed below.  Any opinions expressed are my own.

Black Friday is this week or should I say Black Thursday & Friday since lots of stores are starting their sales as early as Thursday at 5 PM, as a part of our trip to L.A. we had the opportunity to chat with two of the folks from Disney Consumer Products.  They shared with us some of the details about the items in our Big Hero 6 Welcome Package and how consumers can purchase those products for their fans this holiday season.  My welcome pack was a huge hit in our house.  My husband wanted the Baymax Hoodie I had so badly but it wasn’t big enough.  The kids played rock, paper, scissors for the Baymax pillow, my infant is in love with his Honey Lemon plush and I even tucked away some goodies for Christmas.  Here’s a break down of some of the great products available for purchase from Disney Consumer Products.

Thanks to the generosity of the folks at Disney Infinity all the bloggers took home their very own Disney Infinity 2.0 Toy Box Starter Pack (specific to a gaming console of their choice) and the Hiro & Baymax figures.  We also had a small group demo of how the new 2.0 edition works.  There’s so much I loved about Disney Infinity.  In the new 2.0 players can build amazing worlds of their own.  There is even a community for builders and you can upload your worlds so other people can download and use it as their own.

Making of a Disney Short: Feast Exclusive #Feast #BigHero6Event

Making of a Disney Short: Feast Exclusive

Paperman is probably my favorite Disney Short of all time.  I loved it before seeing it in the movies in front of Wreck It Ralph, when all I saw were drawings on blogs.  So you could imagine my delight when I found out that Patrick Osborne head animator on Paperman and creator of the new Disney Short Feast would be in our interview line up.  I attended an all expenses paid trip to LA with Disney and ABC Television.

If you haven’t seen Big Hero 6 yet, then you should definitely check it out this weekend and get there on time so you can see the short Feast that opens in front of Big Hero 6.  I honestly cried watching this short at the red carpet premiere of Big Hero 6.  If you’ve even had a broken heart you can identify with this short.

“Feast,” a new short from first-time director Patrick Osborne (head of animation, “Paperman”) and Walt Disney Animation Studios, is the story of one man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog, Winston, and revealed bite by bite through the meals they share.

feast

Winston is the cute Boston Terrier that stars in the short Feast.  Osborne shared that he wanted to choose a two toned dog so when they were animating the drawings you could see the smooth movement of the dog.  Even with the choice of dogs, he wanted to choose a dog that you don’t see often in animations and after several drawings of different dogs they went with Winston.  Wondering how the idea for Feast came about?

Patrick Osborne: It started with an all called 1 Second Everyday.  It’s an app that lets you record one second of your life everyday for the rest of your life.  Patrick was using the app to take photos of his meals for a year.  When he found out that there was an opportunity to pitch a short he immediately started to think of an idea to share a story of all his meals and how they changed based on his life and how he was feeling.  Slowly the idea evolved and included Winston.

Osborne thought it would be fun to share how the dog grew with the family and as time passed how that dog became more comfortable with that family.

Kristina Reed producer of Feast shared that when they were choosing meals for the short they had to find meals that you could immediately identify with, since they are only on screen for less than three seconds they wanted the foods to be familiar with viewers.  One of the things they had for people working on the short was “Feast Fridays”, they would bring in foods they were considering and brainstorm about the project.  She also noted that when they had healthier options not as many people showed up for the ‘feast’.

Patrick Osborne said the short was green lit a year and a month ago (at time of the interview).  Their shot production was 16 weeks with a month for in the end.  Production started in January of 2014 and was completed at the end of May 2014.

I’m Back In The Recording Booth… #MeetBaymax #BigHero6Event

I’m Back In The Recording Booth…

Yes that’s right I’m back in the recording booth and this time as Baymax.  In February when I attended my #FrozenDVD Press Trip we had the chance to get in the voice recording booth, the same room where lots of the actors and actresses recorded their voices as well.  It was awesome and on my recent trip we did it again.  I was invited on an all expenses paid trip to LA with Disney and ABC Television.

voice booth 41 - Copy

One thing people always want to know about doing voice over is how hard is it.  Being that we only get one shot at recording our small blurb it’s all about timing.  My first time in the booth we followed the script on the screen.  There was a bouncing ball, kind of like karaoke and it was about being on timing with the wording.  It’s not till you get in the booth do you realize that we all have different patterns to the way we talk.  Some people are slow packed and others race fast.  According to the Recording Engineer Michael Weissman it takes several different takes to get just the right line when recording a movie.  Sometimes they make you come back and record just a word or two to go along with the other portion.  It’s a lot of clipping and pasting together, so considering we get one shot I think we all did an amazing job.

I chose to go second, since this wasn’t my first time I didn’t hang back, this time we had to read a script and listen for three chimes as our que.  Needless to say I was so focused on the cartoon on-screen I was a bit off.  Check out the rough cut of me recording my first take.  Luckily I got a chance to record it again.

Recording my voice over from Nickida Stephens on Vimeo.

This stuff was harder than I remembered but needless to say I got to do it again and I was determined to make sure I got it right this time.  I focused and didn’t want any distractions.

The second time I didn’t  even bother looking at the screen I just focused on the script and I have to say I was pleased with the end result.  Here’s my little clip as Baymax.  Can you hear my accent?

Don’t forget that Big Hero 6 is in theaters everywhere now.  If you haven’t seen it yet then be sure to check it out this weekend.  It’s a great family movie.

Interview with Genesis Rodriguez and Jamie Chung #BigHero6Event

Interview with Genesis Rodriguez and Jamie Chung

After attending the red carpet premiere and seeing Big Hero 6, I couldn’t wait to sit and interview the people responsible for such an awesome movie.  We had the opportunity to sit with the directors, attend a drawing demo with Jin Kim, and much more. I was however most excited about my interview with Genesis Rodriguez and Jamie Chung, they voiced Honey Lemon and Go Go Tomago in Big Hero 6.  I attended an all expenses paid trip courtesy of Disney and ABC Television.

genesis and jamie1

If you’re seen Big Hero 6 then you probably know why I was so excited about interviewing these ladies.  None of the trailers really shows how great both their characters are in this movie.  If you haven’t seen it yet then you’re missing out and should make plans to see it ASAP.  When the ladies walked in they were so warm and friendly.  I had already seen Genesis earlier that morning.  We were in the lobby taking photos and she walked in and was taking photos just like us.  She even snapped a quick photo with one of the bloggers and herself in front of a Honey Lemon poster.  We chatted a little with the ladies and then started the interview.

Question: What was your favorite part about playing the Character that you played?

Jamie Chung: I think the favorite, in particular with this character, Go Go doesn’t say a lot at the beginning of the film. When she does say something, it’s very on point and it’s quite sassy and you know, she was described to me as the female version of Clint Eastwood. And it was just fun to like sass it up, and like literally if I said a line with too much of a smile, the Directors Chris and Don do it, No, No, No, No, No, a little bit meaner. [LAUGHTER]

Genesis Rodriguez: And just for me, it was having to be so positive all the time. Um, I really feel like I was acting a fool and I was getting paid for it.  It really is just the biggest blessing to have this cast, warm and loving characters cause you’ll never get to play that kind of part in a live action thing. So um, I, to be honest, I mean, I can speak for the both of us, we’ve been huge Disney fans all of our lives and you know, we’ve been Princesses and I literally would comb my red hair in restaurants as Ariel.  It’s like a dream come true to be able to play these strong female characters and bring that down to future generations.

girls2

Question: I have a question about Honey Lemon’s Character because she looks Caucasian, right, but then there were moments in the film where she had a Japanese accent to me like especially when she said Hiro, when she said your name, it sounded very Japanese. And I don’t know if it was because the setting was a mix of San Francisco and Japan and I was wondering if there were, if that was, if she had a Japanese background as well.

Genesis Rodriguez: So Honey Lemon is very Latina.  That’s her way of putting her latina culture and a little of myself into the character.

I loved hearing her talk to Hiro in the movie it was so endearing and nurturing, you could tell she really loves him and cares about his well-doing greatly.  She also shared that latinas are all different, like her mom who’s a blonde with light eyes.

Question: Had you voiced an Animated Character before?

Jamie Chung: Oh nothing on this caliber. You know, once you’ve done a Disney Animation Film, it’s like kind of the top of the top, you know what I mean? You’re good. I did do a cartoon for a different network and it was a half hour, it didn’t work out though and it was cancelled.

Question: Did you like a strong having a strong female movie character?

Jamie Chung: Absolutely, talking further on stereotypes, what I love about this film is that there is no stereotype. You know, it kind of breaks all of those boundaries in terms of you know, being a Nerd, and being not cool, like this is the absolute opposite of that. And in terms of strong female characters, like Honey Lemon and Go Go are so different from each other and yet they both represent strength in its, in their own way. And you know, what Disney’s great about is not like a Cookie Cutter example of like this is a strong woman. It’s, you know, they both come in different shapes and sizes, and different shades and what not, and that’s what I love about this.

honey lemon

Question: A couple of my Readers have asked, when you’re in Studio and you’re doing your voices, is it just, are you very animated while you’re doing it, like everybody’s listening to it in their heads and jumping around or is it very calm when you’re doing it?

Genesis Rodriguez: I heard this story of a famous voice over actor and he prefers to lay down and say all of his lines. I don’t know how that’s possible because if we are moving like literally, I have done the motion and I think Jamie is the same way, like you have to do the motion and get that sound out like it’s weird. I mean, and it’s so hard to do because you have to stay still. But it’s like Nick is nowhere and you’re falling 6 feet and you’re landing on the floor, to make that noise it’s really hard to do.  You have to use your imagination but it helps you.  I couldn’t not move, I can’t imagine saying my lines like that.

Question: What did you like wear?  I know when you talk to some Actors but did you wear heavy shoes to get into these Characters?  Did you do something like that?

Genesis Rodriguez: What’s weird is that I did, the audition exactly like Honey Lemon and I hadn’t seen the character at all.  I took a very bold fashion choice.  I did socks in heels and I did like an undershirt and then a dress over it.  And I don’t do that like at all but I wasn’t, I don’t know why I went like that and then I saw Honey Lemon and the way she dressed and then this is freaky.  I couldn’t have land it better.

go go

Question: How did you prepare?

Jamie Chung: I think the most important thing is to be unique because once you’re in the room, you can really go and figure out where it’s supposed to be and say OK, you’re onto something and then you kind of go with that role and it’s like a speed bump, you know.  So that’s the only thing that you can do and you know, you have to be able to play.  You really have to just tap into your inner kid and make that voice, you know.

Question: Did you add your own personality to the characters?

Jamie Chung: I think the interesting thing when you add a voice to it, personality to it because it really does come alive. And if you look at each character and compare them to the person that’s playing them, like they embody that — that character, like Genesis to me is Honey Lemon, you know. It’s, you know, her own personal attributes are what kind of gives this character life, and I think that’s what they did with casting. They wanted the characters to kind of represent the Actors that are playing them.

girls

Genesis said that Jamie’s character Go Go had the best line in the movie which is “Woman Up.”

Question: Other than your characters, who’s your favorite character and not Baymax?

Genesis Rodriguez: Fred is hysterical. What’s funny is that — T.J. is such a great comedian. He’s like totally Fred too.

Jamie Chung: I liked Wasabi. You know, I — I feel like a lot of resemblance with because I’m like very– I’m like looking at these phones and I’m like I want to line them up. [LAUGHTER] He was a worry wart and he cares about his safety and the safety of everyone.

Question: Do you think that doing the movie anyway changed your perspective on certain things?  Going forward, does it want you to be better?

Jamie Chung: In terms of like sending the right message, you know, it is a superhero movie but it stresses the importance of education and Science and I love that the message that it sends is that intelligence and smarts is not sex biased, no more is it race biased.  You know, everyone’s equal and — and everyone has that same opportunity to reach that, you know milestone in terms of education.  So I think it’s cool to part of that and also in terms of 10, 20, 30 years from now, this movie still will be relevant, you know.

Genesis Rodriguez: I was so excited for a movie to talk about Robots and Technology.  I was into Robotics too and I’m an official Nerd.  To even have a movie that’s making girls want to be in technology and be smart, I hope girls especially will be wanting after this movie, to be the first ones to raise their hands in class and realize that being smart is empowering and I mean, if we got to do that for them like again, we’re so cool, we’re so much, you know.  Robotics is cool.  Science is cool.

My How To Draw Baymax Drawing Demo Experience

My How To Draw Baymax Drawing Demo Experience

I can’t draw at all, even my stick figures look like they would use some help so I didn’t even notice on our schedule for my Disney Big Hero 6 Press trip that we had a drawing demonstration.  I was invited on an all expenses paid blogger trip to LA with Disney and ABC Television.  Any opinions expressed are my own.

baymax demo

I can honestly say that I have received some once in a lifetime experiences on my two press trips with Disney.  This is stuff people keep on their bucket lists and dream of all their lives.  These are things I never thought I would be doing but I have and it’s always amazing.  On my most recent trip we had a drawing demo with Big Hero 6 Character Design Supervisor Jin Kim.  If you’re looking to get into animation as a career choice then you would have loved to spend the time we did with Jin.  When we walked in we each had one sheet of paper and a pencil to draw our Baymax, we sat down and waited for our first set of directions.  Within a minute I realized none of us had an eraser and I flipped my page to draw on the other side.

baymax demo3

Drawing came so natural to Jin Kim, of course he probably drew Baymax a million times by now but he was so comfortable drawing on his touch screen.  He chatted with us while drawing and giving us instructions on what to do with our drawing.  He was so easy going and fun to work with.  He shared with us some of the other drawings he worked on in the movie and when he was done with our demo we asked him to show us how fast he could draw Baymax.  He did it in under a minute.

baymax demo4

If you would like to learn about drawing your own Baymax then check out this youtube video demonstration from Disney and you could learn from Jin Kim as well.

How A Marvel Comic Became A Disney Blockbuster

I attended an all expenses paid press trip to LA with Disney and ABC Television.  Any and all opinions expressed are my own.

Big Hero 6 opened this weekend in theaters everywhere and it’s already number one at the box office and if you’ve seen any of the previews then you know what it is and will be a blockbuster for Disney.  While in LA this past week I had the opportunity to walk the red carpet for the Big Hero 6 Premiere as well as attend a special press day with all the bloggers.  One of the opportunities I had was sitting down with the directors of Big Hero 6 – Don Hall & Chris Williams.  They were amazing and had lots to share with us about how a Marvel comic became a Disney blockbuster.

Big Hero 6 Directors - Don Hall & Chris Williams
Big Hero 6 Directors – Don Hall & Chris Williams

Don Hall and Chris Williams walked into the room to a rousing round of applause, surprised they walked to the front of the room and looked at all of us with smiles on their faces – they gave us the “all this for me?’ look and took their seats.  They asked the first question and it was “how did you like the movie?”  A simple question and one you could tell they asked out of a sense of pride in the work they had done.  Kind of like when you make a great dinner for your family and you ask if they liked the meal because you want to make sure they are satisfied.  That’s how they asked, they truly want to make sure that people going to see the movie leave feeling like they got all they came for and in this case I’m certain they will and even more.  These guys were both amazingly humble and great to talk with.

The first question was for Don; what attracted you to the story of Big Hero 6, being that it’s sort of small-publishing in the comic book world?  He responded by saying he liked that the comic was somewhat small in the world of comics.  He jokes that there are a few small comics and when ever he says that sentence everyone always says “What were the other ones?” – he doesn’t remember them all but he says “We never pitched one idea. We pitched a few, at least three. And this was like five or six.  What originally attracted me to Big Hero 6 was just the title. It just sounded interesting. And then I researched it a little bit more.  I saw the Japanese superhero theme, thought that was super cool, and then read the books and you know, I was really struck by the characters.”  He went on to say that he felt like all the characters were just so fun and appealing. They had goofy names, like Honey Lemon, and you could tell that the creators loved Japanese pop culture, and that’s why they did the book. They wanted to take their love of anime, and all things Japanese, and infuse that with a sort of Marvel superhero story. So, I love that.  Most of all we could see amidst all of that there was en emotional story, about a 14-year old super genius who loses his big brother, and his robot that becomes a surrogate big brother and heals him. So it had all of these elements, but, even then, it still was, to me, a dark horse.

directors2

The next question came from Twitter:  what was the biggest change from the initial script to the final cut of the movie?

Don responded first, while Chris thought of his answer by saying “Biggest change? Well, I know that one — it may not be the biggest. One thing that just comes to mind is that Baymax became more central, than how he really started — we sort of realized that when he is driving the story, and driving the plot it really helps. And he became a real interesting character in uniting the sort of ‘boy and his robot’ story and the superhero origin story.”  Chris chimed in saying “Yeah, but I don’t know if it’s the biggest. I think it’s the most significant because, up to that point Hiro was really driving it.  Which makes sense. You’d want the protagonist driving the story. But the story wasn’t coming together, and it didn’t come together, until we put Baymax front and center, and it really took — take that idea that he wants to heal him and put it in the forefront and make it really proactive, as opposed to you know, being reactive. Because, before, he was really reactive to Hiro and he just followed Hiro around.  He was always a great character, but when you’d put him front and center and make him proactive, he’s the one engaging a lot.

More from the interview:  Don also added that the scene on the wind turbine after that first flight scene.  That really kinetic scene where they’re flying through the city.  The scene where it’s just the two of them sitting on the wind turbine above the clouds — that really sort of sweet scene — was a very late addition, but that’s the way we worked.  We keep sort of questioning our assumptions and keep challenging the story. And we realized there was something missing that’s when we added that scene, and it really solidified the relationship, it helped us understand then how much they were invested. How much they loved each other. We became invested in their relationship, and that was a fairly late addition, and so I am really proud of that scene.

directors1

Question: Did you study any specific Marvel action scenes from the movies to inspire any of the scenes from this movie?

Chris responded first saying “I can’t say we did. Well. I wouldn’t say we studied, but we’d seen the movies so many times that we’re all just big geeks, so, we probably knew them more than we should. We definitely wanted to do right by the action part of it, but the emotional story is the most emotional thing, you know? We also felt that there was going to be an expectation that the action scenes had to be pretty awesome. And, not only that, but they had to have a different personality.”

More from the interview: Chris shared that he loved the fact that they’re all very different. He even shared some of his memorable scenes from the movie like the car chase is kind of just fun and thrilling. The scene we call it monster, but it’s the face-off where who Yokai is, that one is tragic. You know? And then the battle at the end it’s just, all hands on deck and the one in the warehouse, that was creepy but comedic.

Question: Who your favorite character is in the movie, and why, the both of you?

Chris chimed in first saying “We should probably disqualify Baymax. Yeah. That’s too [LAUGHTER] easy — I guess for me, I identify a lot with Fred. He’s really a dork and a geek and all just, you know, into monster movies and sci-fi. I mean, I don’t have the collection that Fred does.  There are moments, I guess, for Fred, during the superhero shenanigans part of it, I keep remembering the feeling that I had when I was a kid and we played superhero, and I had the trash can lid for a Captain America shield.  You’re in a building full of Freds here.”  Don added that he really liked Wasabi, he said “Damon, he really performed that character. That character probably changed the most after we cast Damon. Yeah. We kind of had an idea of what that character was going to be, but Damon comes in, and he has this really great comedic skill set that really guided us.”

More from the interview: When asked about the scenery for the movie Chris and Don shared that they really wanted to push that with this movie. So they had some rules that governed their art direction, which were, simple characters on a complex background. And so they knew that, man, we’re gonna just pack in everything – there’s more detail in this movie than in our last three movies. They gave the credit to our production designer, Paul Felix and their art director of environment, Scott Watanabe, who they felt shared the burden of how to integrate all of this, the Japanese stuff, into San Francisco?

Question: The technology in the film is not only futuristic, but it’s kind of ultra-modern. Is that based on anything? Did you guys work with a science team?

“Yes, and yes. If you watch the credits, you’ll see, ‘Thank you, science.’ There’s so many people that we brought in, because we do all extensive research. So, yeah, there were scores of roboticists that consulted on the movie, and that research trip, that gave us Baymax, but then there was a guy I met on that research trip, Dr. Tom Wagner, who was from I, Robot.  He became a kind of consultant on the film early on.” stated Chris.  Don talked about how fast technology was moving in today’s world, “to make a movie where you’re trying to deal with the latest cutting-edge technology. One of the challenges is, the actual stuff is moving so quickly, we have to make sure we get our movie out ahead of it. I think we managed it.” – Don Hall.

Did You Know?: when the team started doing research on the technology they wanted to include in the movie they thought they were bending the rules with telekinesis but they learned that researchers were already working on ways to incorporate telekinesis into technology.

directors

Question:  Is there a message that you are trying to send about the emotional relationship between a boy and his robot, compared to, nowadays, its people and technology, and their SmartPhone?

It didn’t take Don long to respond by saying “We were thinking of Baymax more of a character than as a robot, ultimately, and his role in the emotional story. And primarily, we were thinking of this as a story about loss, and the idea that Baymax would be a surrogate big brother, helping Hiro with his loss of his brother.”  This is a very emotional story.  They kept circling the idea of trying to show that when you lose someone you love they can still live on in you through your actions.  Hiro needed Baymax to help him finally come to that realization, that although he lost his brother he is still there with him.

group one directors

By the end of the interview we were laughing and talking with these guys like we’ve known them for ages.  They make you feel that comfortable and they are that humble.  Even with another blockbuster hit on their hands they just loved talking about this movie and how they worked to bring it to life.  Three years later we all get to enjoy the fruits of their labor and honestly I have to say it’s a fantastic movie.  Earlier in the interview Chris talked about how much the movie changes over and over with all the different pitches they make.  The story evolves so much he said, he was excited about talking with the creators of the original comic book at the LA premiere the night before and they shared how much they loved the movie.  “I felt like, well, okay, if the creators of the original comic book love this movie, then hopefully I think we did something right by them.”  With a seal of approval I think both these guys can be certain they not only did great by the creators but they all the old and new fans of Big Hero 6.

Disney Movies Anywhere Available on Google Play

Disney Movies Anywhere Available on Google Play

dmalogo

Earlier this year Disney Movies Anywhere became available for the iTunes store and fans of Disney movies could now take their digital movie collections with them everywhere they went.  Last week the announcement was made that the app is now available on Google Play for Android users everywhere and that was something to celebrate about.  While in LA for my Big Hero 6 & ABC TV Event we were invited by Disney Home Entertainment to a private cocktail reception to learn more about the new partnership and to get a hands on demonstration of the app and how it works.  Here’s the most important things you need to know about Disney Movies Anywhere and why you need to download the app today.

79cf6d35-6243-4c5c-a4ab-f10e47fda8f1

  • Disney Movies Anywhere takes all the digital copies of your movies and keep them in one central location.  Perfect for traveling on the road or when you’re on vacation.  Now you don’t have to pay those high movie rental fees in hotels.  Your library is with you all the time.
  • The DMA app is the same across all platforms, so if you have an iPhone and an Android tablet your library and content will be the same on both apps.  It keeps your account connected on all those platforms.
  • Although the movies show in your library you have to download them to your device to view if you are not connected to the internet.  So you can stream it over Wi-Fi or download and view when you’re in the car or on the go.
  • You can input your DMR codes in the app as well.  The app also takes you directly to the Disney Movie Rewards page so you can redeem codes for rewards and see what’s new.
  • When you purchase and add a digital title, the app automatically adds all content related to that movie on an ongoing basis.  Even if it was added months after your purchase.
  • Get access to exclusive content, trailers and sneak peeks before everyone else.
  • Search for your favorite movies by categories, so for instance if you want to only find Marvel movies, or princess movies, fairies, the app already has them sorted to make it easier to search and find what you are looking for.
  • New movies and content added each week so make sure you check into the app as often as possible so you know what’s new.
  • For a limited time when you download the app on an Android device you will receive a free digital copy of Wreck It Ralph so be sure to download it now.

You’ll Laugh, You’ll Cry, You’ll Want to See it Again #BigHero6

You’ll Laugh, You’ll Cry, You’ll Want to See it Again #BigHero6

Ever since I saw the first image from Big Hero 6 I was intrigued.  I knew I wanted to know more about this movie and and as more and more information came out I know it would be a movie I wanted to see.  I was invited by Disney to the Red Carpet premiere of Big Hero 6.  The premiere was held at the El Capitan Theatre on November 4th.  We walked the red carpet and then viewed the 3D version of the movie.  It was AMAZING…… you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to see it again!

Big-Hero-6

The early scenes also gives us insight into Hiro and Tadashi’s relationship.  You can tell that Hiro looks up to his big brother but he doesn’t fully understand what he’s going at his school or nerd school like he calls it.  Tadashi took Hiro to his school lab to show him what he does at school.  That’s where we first meet the whole gang.  Each of them working on something out of this world in the field of science, oh and then there’s Fred.  He’s the funny guy in the group.  He isn’t a science wiz but he is funny, a comic book genius, playful and full of energy and life.  He’s a very important part of this team.  It’s at this same visit that Tadashi introduces Hiro to Baymax for the first time.  While Baymax doesn’t seem as cool as the other projects being worked on in the lab Hiro was very proud of his brother.  You like Baymax as soon as you see him on the screen.  Although he’s a robot you can tell he really cares about his patient’s well being and providing top patient care.

bigherogang

Hiro’s short visit to his brother’s school leads him to enter a competition to earn a spot at the school.  At first he didn’t know what to do for his presentation but with a little help from his brother and friends he comes up with the perfect project.  Hiro’s project is a big hit and immediately there are people interested in the technology.  Then tragedy strike and rocks Hiro’s world.  The movie covers death and loss in a way that isn’t scary to kids.  The movie does a great job showing that those affected are sad but they each have their own way of dealing with the loss. A stubbed toe brings Baymax back into the movie to aid Hiro and that’s when the whole movie just expands and grows.  We see the relationship grow between Baymax and Hiro and how much it means to Baymax to help Hiro feel better.

bigHero62

Determined to find out what happened the night of the Science showcase, Hiro and his friends all come together to solve the mystery and save the day.  I won’t post spoilers because I really want you to go see this movie and see how awesome it is on your own.  You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to see it again.  It’s heartwarming, funny, adventure filled and it’s a movie the whole family will enjoy.  Each one of the characters bring something different to the movie that makes it the perfect family movie and one that both boys and girls can enjoy.  Let me introduce you to the whole gang.

hiro

Hiro – he’s the main character and it’s his determination to find the truth that leads him to the creation of the team.  He’s very smart and inventive.

baymax

Baymax – created as a personal health care companion, is nurturing and kind, his main goal is to make Hiro feel better and once he realizes he’s making him happy he does all he can to continue to make him happy.  Every time Baymax is on the screen you just want to smile and hug him.

wassabi

Wassabi – he’s all about rules and structure.  Even when they were being chased down by the villain he stopped at the traffic light so he wouldn’t break the law.  He’s also kind of a chicken but when it counts he helps save the team.

honey lemon

Honey Lemon – is quirky and fun.  She loves Science and she’s very maternal.  She loving and caring and the member of the group that would make sure they all ate before fighting crime.

fred

Fred – he’s the comic relief in the group.  He’s the kid who won’t grow up, young and heart and ready for anything that comes their way.  If you need a laugh Fred is most likely your guy.

go go

Go Go – she’s my favorite character from the movie.  She’s not only smart, she’s very cool under pressure.  She’s the brave one on the team and it seems like nothing can scare her at all.  I really love her character because she will be a great role model for girls, reminding them that they can be smart, pretty, brave and a leader.

Big Hero 6 opens today – November 7th everywhere in HD and 3D.  Take the family this weekend.

My Big Hero 6 Red Carpet Experience #BigHero6Event

My Big Hero 6 Red Carpet Experience

I was invited on an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles to attend a press trip with Disney and ABC TV.  Any opinions expressed are my own.

IMG_2806

When I first read my email invite to LA for the Big Hero 6 Event and the ABC TV Event one of the most exciting things on the schedule for me was getting to walk the red carpet for the premiere of Big Hero 6 on November 4th.  The premiere was held at the El Capitan Theatre.  We attending a pre-party sponsored by Disney In Home Entertainment (more to come later) and then took the short walk from the Roosevelt Hotel over to where the premiere was being held.  Since this was my first red carpet I had asked other bloggers for tips to help me enjoy the night and get the most out of the entire experience.  Here’s some of the tips that was shared with me from bloggers that have walked the red carpet in the past.

IMG_2891

The first and most important tip is making sure you have a picture buddy.  I teamed up with Becca from My Crazy Good Life.  Although I’d never met her in person we instantly connected online and even more in person.  She was the perfect choice for picture buddy.  Having a picture buddy to take all your photos and you help them take theirs makes the walk down the red carpet less stressful and more fun.  Another tip was to make sure move quickly because we would be rushed into the movie theatre for the start of the movie, however we didn’t have that experience at all.  We got to take our time for this movie, which was perfect for me and Becca because it was our first time.  We had the chance to take the pictures we wanted and look people watch as well.

IMG_2816

People watching is a huge part of walking the red carpet, for us, for fans and even for celebrities.  While we were on our way into the movie we spotted three of the kids from the cast of Blackish.  They had recognized us because we interviewed them the day before so they came over and chatted and snapped a quick photo with us as well.  I can’t wait to share with you all things #Blackish next week.  There were lots of people to see on the red carpet and while at the movie.  The cast of Big Hero 6 took to the red carpet to take photos and show their silly sides before the movie.

Two tips I would include from my experience is to make sure your shoes is comfortable.  I had on heels and I didn’t spend as much time on the red carpet.  Comfortable shoes are a must for the red carpet.  Another tip I would also include is waiting after the movie for a chance to see some celebrities.  While waiting for our buses to the after party we saw a few celebrities exiting the theatre and some even stopped and signed autographs for fans and took pictures with them. After the movie we went to the after party.  There was even more activities for people to enjoy and have fun.

Check Out #Feast, The Short Opening In Front of Big Hero 6

I love Disney Shorts.  One of my favorites is Paperman.  I’ve been DVRing them for my kids whenever Mickey Short appear on Disney Channel.  Now I have a special look for the new short Feast that will be opening in front of Big Hero 6 – opening in theaters on November 7th.  Check out the clip below.

“Feast,” a new short from first-time director Patrick Osborne (head of animation, “Paperman”) and Walt Disney Animation Studios, is the story of one man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog, Winston, and revealed bite by bite through the meals they share. The short opens on Nov. 7, 2014, in front of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Big Hero 6.” For more information, like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/DisneyAnimation, and follow us on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/DisneyAnimation.

Pursuing a Blogging Dream, I’m Heading to LA Again #BigHero6Event #ABCTVEvent

Pursuing a Blogging Dream, I’m Heading to LA Again

When I started blogging I had no idea where it would lead and what would come out of it.  I’ve been doing it on and off for about five years and two years ago I started down a path that has been life changing for me.  Growing up I wanted to be so many different things in life but as time passed so did my goals.  I’ve grown up and settled into what I want for my life right now.  That’s being a wife and a mom.  That’s what I started off blogging about, then slowly it changed and included recipes, then book reviews, more reviews and then I joined a blogging group and realized that I could dream big in the blogging world and so I made a list of companies I wanted to build a relationship with.  It was a year ago I made that list and on the top was Disney.

When you dream, dream big because that’s the only way to do it.  Earlier this year I received my first sprinkle of Disney Magic when I was invited to a in home releases press trip.  It was amazing.  It was a huge dream come true for me, my husband still brags about my trip to anyone that will listen.  Once I returned home from my trip I knew I wanted to return again and I figured maybe next year it would happen for me again.  Then a few weeks ago the Disney magic landed in my email box again.  I was beyond ecstatic.  One year ago I dreamed about getting to attend of  these events and this will be my second time this year.  And in the words of Walt Disney “All our dream can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them”.  So I’m heading to L.A. for a second time this year and it’s going to be AMAZING!  This trip has some amazing events planned for myself and twenty-four other bloggers.

Big Hero 6

I’m super excited about this trip because I am getting to walk the red carpet for the premiere of Big Hero 6.  My entire family is excited about this movie and that’s only one aspect of how amazing this trip will be.  It’s going to be epic and I can’t wait to attend another amazing trip.  Here’s what I’ll be doing while I’m in L.A. in November.

bighero6While in L.A. I will have the opportunity to walk the red carpet at the BIG HERO 6 (opening in theatres on 11/7) premiere and also attend a special press day at Walt Disney Animation Studios where I will interview the filmmakers, attend a drawing demonstration with animators and get a chance to voice a character from the film in a recording booth!  When I was on my trip in February I had the opportunity to lend my Voice to Olaf, learn about rigging and had an amazing interview with the filmmakers.  This is of course my first time walking a red carpet for a movie and I can’t wait to see the film and show off the cute dress I got for the event.  Be sure to follow the hashtag #BigHero6Event to read about all Baymax & Hero.

dancing

The fun doesn’t stop there either, because while I am in town I will also attend a live taping of “Dancing with the Stars”(Monday nights at 8/7cat the glamorous ballroom set!  Afterwards, during dinner, I;ll be to live tweeting for the West coast airing of the show – when a special guest (or two!) might make an appearance.  I’m hoping the guests are Carlton and Lea for the show since those two are my favorites to win it all.

blackishabc

galavant

I’ll also visit the Walt Disney Studio Lot for special preview screenings of episodes of ABC shows, like the new hit comedy “black-ish” (Wednesday nights at 9:30/8:30c– which also shoots on the Disney lot, so a set tour might be in order! – and the upcoming musical comedy “Galavant” (hosted by Executive Producer Dan Fogelman of “Tangled” and “Cars” fame).  I’ve been live tweeting with the cast of black-ish every Wednesday and it’s my favorite new comedy.  I can’t wait for Wednesdays so I can catch up with the family and see what’s new for the family.  I’m also excited for the sneak peak of Galavant that’s coming soon to ABC.  This was enough for me to be filled with excitement but the trip keeps getting better because this was just announced…

I’ll be meeting ‪#‎AgentCarter‬ herself (aka actress Hayley Atwell), interviewing the Executive Producers Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas (also EPs on Resurrection), touring the set and other super exciting stuff!  #AgentCarter premieres on ABC in midseason!

Talk about awesome.  So be sure to follow me @nickicoupons on Twitter – and all the hashtags #BigHero6Event #BlackishABC #ABCTVEvent #AgentCarter to see what all the other bloggers and myself are doing during our trip.  Click on the button below to read all my posts related to this trip.  Stay tuned it’s going to be GREAT!  Oh and remember to pursue all your dreams because you never know when they’ll start to come true.
