Storm Reid Cast at Meg in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time

While the film has no official photos or release date, the internet was a buzz last night when Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling in a series of tweets confirmed the news.  Storm Reid has been cast at Meg Murry.  Check out the tweets below:

Reid’s first theatrical film role was in the Academy Award-winning 12 YEARS A SLAVE where she played Emily, and she has also appeared in AMERICAN GIRL: LEA TO THE RESCUE and SLEIGHT, which premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Most recently, she shot a starring role in Judy Greer’s directorial debut A HAPPENING OF MONUMENTAL PROPROTIONS (2017), alongside Allison Janney, Common and Bradley Whitford. She is represented by Stella Alex from the Savage Agency, Principato-Young Entertainment, and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.

Reid joins a cast which already includes Oprah Winfrey in the role of Mrs. Which, Reese Witherspoon in the role of Mrs. Whatsit and Mindy Kaling in the role of Mrs. Who. The actors shared the official news on Twitter.

The film is directed by Ava DuVernay (SELMA) from a script by Jennifer Lee (FROZEN). Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand are producing the film, which will begin production later this year.

I’m Heading Back to LA for the Queen of Katwe Event

In June I had the opportunity to screen the Queen of Katwe, it was such a great movie.  I cried, I left inspired, and I knew I wanted to learn more.  I still can’t believe that in less than a week I’ll be heading back to LA for the Queen of Katwe Event.  I’m so excited to learn more about this inspiration film that I’m recommending to all my family and friends.  Our group of 25 bloggers will arrive in town starting September 19th through September 21st.  While there we’ll be screening the film, walking the red carpet, and interviewing talent from the movie.

Words can’t describe how much I’m looking forward to this trip.  Not just to learn about the movie but to learn about some awesome ABC shows as well.  Included in the line up is Once, The Middle and American Housewife.

The Queen of Katwe opens in select theaters on 9/23 and everywhere on 9/30.  “Queen of Katwe” is based on the vibrant true story of a young girl from the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.

We’re starting our first day of the trip by attending a special screening of the movie on the Disney Studios lot, followed by cast interviews and the red carpet premiere on Tuesday night.

Interviews will include Phiona Mutesi who inspired the film and her coach Robert Katende.  This is a rare opportunity for us to talk to the real life people who the movie’s based on.

Also included in the interviews is Madina Nalwanga (who portrays Phiona in the film) and David Oyelowo (who portrays Robert in the film).  Both did an amazing job in the movie

We’ll also have the opportunity to interview Lupita Nyong’o who plays the role of Phiona’s mother in the film.  As a mother I certainly have a few questions about her potrayal of this character.

Remember the QUEEN OF KATWE opens in theaters in limited release on September 23rd and everywhere on September 30th!

In addition Queen of Katwe we’ll have the opportunity to spend some time on the set of The Middle which premieres Tuesday, October 11 at 8/7c.

It’s National Pasta Month.  I didn’t even know that there was a whole month dedicated to pasta but that just sounds amazing to me.  To celebrate Giovanni Rana is holding a #PastaLove campaign with weekly giveaways for Giovanni Rana pasta.

Giovanni Rana has been a renowned pasta maker in Italy for over 50 years. I’ve never heard of Koo Koo Kanga Roo until a press release hit my inbox today about their newest single “The Coolest Person” and their May tour dates.  Normally it would take me some time to get around to checking out stuff like this that I never requested but I was intrigued for one reason – The AquaBats!  Yes Koo Koo Kanga Roo is on tour with the AquaBats and since my kids are all Yo Gabba Gabba nuts I couldn’t resist checking this out.  I have to say I am so glad that I did because the single is awesome – well at least I think so and now me and the kids have another song to listen to in the car.

I love discovering new music and artist because it exposes me and my children to music we normally wouldn’t listen to or know about and this band is all about having fun.  Dancing is so required when listening to their music.  “The Coolest Person” is the second single from their upcoming album Whoopty Whoop.

New Hub Network Transformers Series

If you’re a fan of the Transformers brand then you will have something to celebrate soon.  There is a new Transformers series slated for Hub Network in 2015.  It was just announced that the new series is currently in production and will early next year.  The series is being produced by Hasbro Studios and is executive produced by Jeff Kline.  The new series takes place years after the battle between Autobots and Decepticons in “Transformers Prime,” and the all new series will center around our hero Bumblebee stepping up to lead a brand new team of Autobots.  The show features an all-star cast with Will Friedle (“Boy Meets World”) returning as Bumblebee, along with Darren Criss (“Glee”), Constance Zimmer (“House of Cards”) and Ted McGinley (“Married with Children”). Blending 3D characters with hand-painted environments, the series mixes action-packed adventure with lots of comedy, making it a rip-roaring experience for kids and families to enjoy together.

This is a big year as the TRANSFORMERS brand celebrates its 30th anniversary. The Hub Network will also be celebrating the success of the franchise with special events to be announced later this year. I can’t wait to see what they have in planned for fans of the Transformers brand.

May 3oth can’t get here fast enough.  Who knew that Maleficent had wings?  The new teaser trailer is out and it’s more amazing that I would ever imagine.  I can’t remember being so excited about a movie before but I just wan’t wait to see this one in theaters.  It keeps looking better and better with each trailer and with so much mystery surrounding the movie.  I just know this is going to be a good movie.  So here’s the trailer below:

I have to give credit to the folks at Walt Disney Studios because they are truly keeping Maleficent under wraps.  I’ve been waiting and waiting for more and there’s just a few teasers out there.  The movie is due out May 30th and they are now releasing a second poster.  There’s two trailers and the Twitter page was just created.  Be sure to follow  @Maleficent on Twitter for more to be revealed. Something big is coming, and according to the folks at Disney we know this tale but we don’t know the truth.  Check out the new poster below.

Earlier this month I went on an all expenses paid trip to L.A. to celebrate the in home release of a few films and one of them was Frozen.  We spent an entire morning learning about all things Frozen.  We walked the halls with the team that worked on the movie, and chatted with the directors and so much more that I’ll be sharing later on this week and beyond.  Well last night, the name night Frozen won two Academy Awards the movie also crossed the one billion dollar mark at the worldwide box office.  I saw the counter when I was there almost a month ago.

“Frozen” opened wide domestically on November 27, 2013, following a five-day exclusive engagement at Disney’s El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. In its record-setting nationwide opening, “Frozen” became the #1 all-time Thanksgiving debut with a $93.6M five-day gross and a $67.4M Friday-Sunday gross over the holiday period. It was Walt Disney Animation Studios’ biggest opening ever. “Frozen” was the #1 movie in its second weekend of wide release and, after posting stellar numbers throughout the holiday season, returned to the top spot four weeks later in its sixth weekend. Due to popular demand, a special sing-along version of the film opened in theaters nationwide January 31, its 10th weekend of wide release. “Frozen” has remained in the top 10 films at the domestic box office for all 14 weeks of its wide release, the longest run by any film in four years.
