My Thoughts
When I first started reading the book, which started with Eve I didn’t like it at all. I read her chapter and told my husband I just didn’t like the perspective it was written from. I just felt like it was so modern and written from a first person perspective I just couldn’t understand how the author came up with the words of these women who lived thousands of years before us. I left the book for a week and then decided I needed to at least finish so I could write a review and when I started on the second woman, which was Sarah I read the bible verse that was on the page and I was so lost. I stopped and said I needed to pray so I can fully understand what I was reading. I closed my eyes and asked God to show me how these words and these women could help me and appeal to my life. When I opened them I read the verse again and understood everything it was saying. I knew then that was what I did wrong for the first time.
I’ve been so blessed by reading this book. It broke down the ways that God used each of these women. Some have very important roles like Eve who we all know and learn about her and Adam. The Pharaoh’s Daughter whose name we don’t know but her kindness and willingness to raise Moses as her own, helped him to be able to free his people from slavery in Egypt. The whole book is like this, women we may have heard of and some that haven’t a huge part of our lessons. Each mini chapter features a story of that woman and her role in the bible and the story of creation of the tribes of Israel and more. At the end there is a small snippet about why and how this woman could apply to a modern-day woman and list passages in the bible for you to read about them directly from the bible.
This book has made me want to pick up my bible and read more. I just want to know more about their stories and how the things they did affected others around them. It’s made me want to read more of the bible and share the stories. Every time I read something I stop to tell my husband about it and it’s challenging us to read and talk about faith as a couple. I’m glad I didn’t write the whole book off and I opened up my heart to receive its blessings. I do believe that it could benefit any woman even though it states its for African-American women. If you’re looking for something to get you back into reading the bible this may be the thing to get you started again or even to read it in a different way.

This is not my kind of genre. To be honest, I am not the most religious person out there so I wouldn’t be likely to pick this book up. But after reading your review I might just have to read it. Thanks!

I’m not that religious either but I excited about learning about these women and they contributions. We live in a society where for so long we didn’t get credit and recognition but it was nice to read that we’ve been doing work from the beginning of time. Lots of lessons really in the book about life. You can relate to it without even touching the bible and just reading the stories.
This probably would not be a book a would read as I usually don’t pick up books geared at once specific race, however after reading your review on your thoughts on how it could be beneficial for anyone it does interest me.
I love the title and the concept behind the book. I think this is a book that I could be interested in. Thanks for your honest review.

Michele, Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by my blog and read the review. I absolutely loved the book once I prayed on it everything was so much more clear to me. I know I had to share that part because I was going to give up but once I got in the right mind and I was ready to receive the messages they just flowed. I am most certainly sharing it with my sisters and any other woman that I know. Especially for Women’s History month in March I will be sharing the post a lot.
